Dear Parents/Carers,
Noone loves a pyjama day at work more than me and it is particularly pleasing we were able to raise more than $600 for the Pyjama Foundation. We have a generous community and it is such a great message for children to see that we support others less fortunate. Next week is our school's celebration of NAIDOC Week and we will have a variety of activities culminating in a free dress day on Friday August 5. Dressing in sun-safe red, yellow, black, blue or green in honour of the Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander flags is a reminder of the important place Indigenous people have in our society.
Prep and Year 1 Playground
We have the full designs ready for the Prep and Year One Playgrounds. These attached designs have been submitted to go out to tender to identify a contractor to take the project forward. This has been a long process to settle on the direction that students, parents and staff are looking for in terms of new playgrounds. We are thankful for our P and C and their protfitable businesses for supporting these large projects as schools aren't provided with funding to replace playgrounds.
Click on the below pictures to see full details of playground plans.
50th Anniversary Celebrations
Plans for our 50th Celebration on Saturday September 10 between 12 and 4pm are well underway. FaceBook pages have been set up for current and former staff and students to connect on the day. Please share these far and wide. I would like to acknowledge the work of Dr Bradley Scott (parent) who has produced some wonderful historical resources for the school to mark this occasion. Every year level is performing on the day and we'd ask every parent/carer to prioritise their child being present for their child's performance on the day. There will be plenty to amuse adults and children alike and we hope that the FaceBook pages for each decade will help our former students and staff organise some social activities until late that evening.
Have a good week,
Kathy

PBL & Social-Emotional Learning
The focus for the fortnight is: Be Independent – We try our best.
This fortnight we are talking and learning about why we try our best and what learner assets we need.
Responding to Feedback (Take it on board): Sometimes it’s hard to hear feedback, but if you can accept that feedback is help, and make the improvements, then you will continuously improve.
Persisting (Sticking to it): Can you stay on task and see your activity through to the end? Learning can be tough at times, and you may feel like giving up or doing mediocre work, but if you persist you will feel more confident next time you try something that is tricky.
Responsible Risk Taking (Have a go): When you try something new, you may expect to be good at it straight away. But it’s OK to make mistakes when learning. Keep practising and never give up! Soon you will improve and become a responsible risk-taker and a better learner.
Taking Responsibility (Stepping up): When you work in a group, make sure you contribute your ideas and help to finish tasks so your group can achieve its work. And when you’re working alone, keep up the great work and take responsibility for your own learning, time management and organisation.
Commitment to Shared Goals (We’re all in it together): You are an important part of your class, your school, your family and your community, so make sure you are a willing participant and help to encourage and assist others to achieve your shared goals.
Our aim is to guide our students out of their comfort zones as learners, so they feel confident to challenge themselves and grow.
Some of our grade 3s setting goals and trying our best:
Bridge Builders: Share and Take Turns
It’s an age-old problem. While young children are learning to socialise and play with their friends, they inevitably disagree with the actions of others.
It can continue into adulthood. The difference is, when our experience with social situations deepens, and we get ourselves into embarrassing situations, we learn to resolve conflict with a win-win mindset.
Children need time to learn to do this. Less time is needed if we teach them the skills and talk them through their conflict with others. Children feel better when they have had a chance to air their concern. While we at school can talk it through with both parties, parents can only do this with their own child.
Please spend the next fortnight talking about the ‘Share – Take Turns’ strategy. Ask them if they used it at school today and how did it make them feel? Children feel empowered when they use a strategy that works – you can see the pride in them. When it doesn’t work, you’ll know because they will complain about it when they get home. This is the time to talk them through it. Praise their attempt but build their resilience to give it another go. Encourage your children at home to use these skills with each other. You will then be able to see it in action.
Term 3 - Year Level Curriculum Snapshots
The Term 3 Curriculum Snapshots for each yeal level are uploaded to the school website and included in each class termly newsletters. The Curriculum Snapshot provides you with an overview of what your child will be learning in their classroom for Term 3. It can be used to help focus your conversations with your child about their learning and the types of activities that they are currently undertaking.

Prep |
Our preps have shown so much resilience in the face of change – we have had a few different teachers pop in and the children have adjusted well. In InitaLit, we are learning double consonants ‘ff’, ‘ll’ and ‘ss’, our first digraph ‘sh’ and our new friend, the ‘Quiet Queen’. We are learning about mass in maths (say that really fast!) and for science, we’ve searched for the uses of wood in our playground and classroom. |
Year 1 |
Despite the rain, Year 1 had so much fun on our excursion to the Caboolture Historical Village last Thursday. The students enjoyed looking at artefacts from the past and listening to talks on how people used to live. Most students agreed that being ‘robbed’ by the bushrangers while on the train was the most exciting event! |
Year 2 |
We have not had much luck with excursions and the weather this year. Unfortunately, our John Goss Reserve excursion was postponed until this week and luckily the weather is looking fantastic! We’ve enjoyed exploring an atlas and drawing our own local maps from a bird's eye point of view. |
Year 3 |
Year 3 students are getting right into their main units of work. In English, we have been unpacking the structure of informative texts and reading lots of facts about places. In Maths, many classes have looked at mapping and positional language, with some classes also looking at tick-tock - time! In Science we have already covered ways to keep warm (great for this time of the year) and in HaSS, we have covered maps and symbols in Aboriginal art. |
Year 4 |
In English, we have been examining how to use keywords to create sentences for our information reports. We can group notes together into categories such as diet or habitat. We are using our multiplication and division strategies and still revising fractions and decimals. In Science, we have started growing our seed heads and will be planning an investigation. HASS has us looking at mapping and visiting South America and Africa. |
Year 5 |
Year 5 students have leapt headfirst into our learning this term. We have been analysing Australian Bush Ballads by examining structure, rhyming scheme and language features of the popular poet Banjo Patterson. We have also started to explore how to turn a bush ballad into a narrative. In Maths, we have finished our unit on 12 and 24-hour time and have started our unit on measurement. We will build upon our knowledge of length, mass, volume, capacity, area and perimeter. |
Year 6 |
In Year 6, we have turned our focus to natural disasters in Science. In particular, we have investigated the cause and effect of volcanoes and earthquakes and how these are related to the movement of Earth’s tectonic plates. In English, we have looked at the persuasive techniques used in feature articles including evaluative language, modality, tricolons and rhetorical questions. |
Roxy & Sarah's Graduation
Mrs Abdy has taken Roxy to 6 days of training on the weekends to prepare her to be a school's Therapy Dog. We should take this opportunity to congratulate them both on Roxy's Graduation as well as thank the Adby family for sharing Roxy with us and to Mrs Abdy for giving up a lot of personal time with her family to prepare Roxy. Roxy will be accredited every twelve months. Roxy is already the most popular member of the Craigslea family. She even posed for her own individual staff photo this week!
Year 1 Excursion to Caboolture Historical Centre
Year 1 had the opportunity to experience life in the past on their excursion to the Caboolture Historical Village

Year 2 Excursion
Year 2 had an excursion to John Goss Reserve yesterday. Check out our busy push and pull Year 2 scientists.
Year 3 Incursion
Last Thursday, Year 3 experienced an incursion to help build their understanding about money and budgeting. Thanks Fair Trading Queensland.
Walking, Wheeling, Wednesday Pyjama Day
Thank you to students who helped raise $619 by wearing their Pjs and snuggly clothes to school which will go towards supporting the Pyjama Foundation so more kids in care can receive the support they desperately need.
