Dear Craigslea Community,
Principal’s Message – Welcome to Term 3
Welcome back to Term 3! I hope you all enjoyed a restful and enjoyable break. In conversations with our students this week, it was wonderful to hear about their many holiday adventures, despite the chilly winter weather. I’ve enjoyed visiting classrooms this week and seeing students settled and engaged as this term’s learning gets underway.
Celebrating NAIDOC Week
At the end of last term, each class created a special NAIDOC-themed door or window display. Their creativity and respect for culture were outstanding here are some snapshots of their fantastic work:

Northside Honours Success
Congratulations to our Instrumental Music students who represented Craigslea at the Northside Honours Program last term. This was a valuable experience that gave our students the opportunity to collaborate and perform alongside peers from other schools. Check out Ms Williams' section for more details and photos.
Our 2025 Focus Areas
As we reach the halfway point of the 2025 school year, it's pleasing to see the strong progress we’ve made toward our key priorities. In Semester 2, we continue to focus on:
- Quality teaching in every learning environment
- Student wellbeing
- High expectations and learning success for all students
School Opinion Survey – Have Your Say
The annual School Opinion Surveys will run from 28 July to 22 August 2025. Families, staff, and students in Years 5 and 6 will be invited to share their feedback on what’s working well at Craigslea and where we can grow. Keep an eye out for your survey invitation via email from Monday 21 July. Your voice matters.
One School, One Book – Launching Next Week
We’re thrilled to launch our One School, One Book project next Monday at assembly. We’ll be welcoming Losing the Plot author, Annaliese Byrd, to help us kick off this exciting shared reading experience. This project is all about engaging with quality literature and nurturing a love of reading. Families are encouraged to read along with us at home and enjoy the journey together.
Construction & Facilities Update
Several key upgrades are underway across the school:
- Year 1/2 Play Precinct – on track for completion by the end of Week 4
- J Block Renovation – due for completion by end of Week 4
- OSHC Building – recently refreshed with internal/external painting and new flooring
- K Block (Music Room) – received an external repaint over the holidays
Thank you for your continued support of our school. I look forward to another term of learning, growth, and connection at Craigslea.

Get Ready to Be Persuaded!
This term in English, students across all year levels will be diving into the art of spoken persuasion and you might just find yourself as their first audience! Our Prep students will be retelling events and sharing how those moments made them feel. Year 1 students will be trying to convince you to play their favourite games by explaining how to play them. Year 2 will be persuading us to choose the perfect destination for a school excursion. Year 3 students will express their preferences and opinions about their favourite activities and explain why they love them. In Year 4, students will present ideas to our sustainability team, suggesting actions to make Craigslea State School even more environmentally friendly. Year 5 will propose new facilities, services, or activities to benefit our school community. Our Year 6 students will tackle real-world issues, presenting arguments to persuade local government councillors to take action on significant community concerns.
It’s shaping up to be a powerful and persuasive term!

This term, selected Craigslea students are taking part in a range of enrichment activities. These include the STEM Kid’s Inspiration Day at the University of Queensland, the APSMO Maths Explorer Contest, Literacy Olympics, and Maths Tournament. Updating Student Documentation and Information
To ensure the school has accurate and up-to-date information about your child, we kindly ask that you provide any recent specialist reports that we may not already have on file. These may include reports from a speech-language pathologist, occupational therapist, psychologist, SPELD assessment, or a paediatrician. Such documents are vital in helping us understand your child’s individual needs and in putting the appropriate support and accommodations in place. Your cooperation allows us to create the most supportive and effective learning environment for your child.
English as an Additional Language or Dialect (EAL/D)
If your child speaks a language other than English at home or is bilingual, please inform the school via email so we can update their records accordingly. Understanding your child’s language background enables us to provide tailored support and classroom strategies to enhance their learning experience. Identifying EAL/D students helps ensure they receive the necessary assistance to thrive both academically and socially. Thank you for working with us to support your child’s educational journey.
Renée McGregor
Head of Inclusion (HoI)
On Monday, we held our NAIDOC assembly. Our students shared the significance of NAIDOC, participated in singing The Brown Snake by Thelma Plum, and listened to the story Finding Our Heart by Thomas Mayor. We were honoured to welcome a musician and the First Nations Dance Troupe from Craigslea State High School, who shared their talents with our school community.
