Dear Craigslea Community,
Winter has well and truly arrived, bringing with it some crisp, chilly mornings. We are now in Week 7 of Term 2, and students are beginning to complete assessments that reflect their learning across the term. This can be a challenging time, as the focus shifts to applying knowledge and demonstrating understanding.
During assessment periods, it’s not uncommon to see changes in student engagement. Our teachers are highly supportive and use a range of strategies to help students succeed. These include using positive language around assessment, breaking down larger tasks, spacing assessments to reduce stress, and utilising teacher aides to support learning. Providing students with multiple opportunities to show what they know is a key part of our approach.
If you notice a change in your child’s attitude towards school during this time, I encourage you to reach out to their class teacher so we can work together to support them. Semester 1 report cards will be distributed on Wednesday, 23 June.
Under 8’s Day
A heartfelt thank you to our Early Years team, led by Mr Todd, for organising a joyful and engaging Under 8’s Day. It remains one of my favourite events of the year, as we celebrate the wonder of early childhood learning. We were also delighted to welcome children from our local kindergartens to join in the fun.
Music Gala – A night of celebrating our music program
Next Friday evening, our school community will come together for a spectacular Music Gala, celebrating the talent and dedication of students in our Instrumental Music and Choir programs. From our beginning musicians to our senior ensembles, the evening will showcase a range of performances that highlight the joy of music. We look forward to sharing this special event with families and thank our music staff for their work in preparing students for the night.
2026 Prep Enrolments Now Open
This week, Mrs Wiles and I began Prep interviews for 2026. Following two well-attended Open Mornings earlier this term, we are enjoying the opportunity to connect more personally with our future Prep families. If you haven’t yet indicated your intention to enrol your child or booked an interview, please contact the school office.
2025 Sports Days
Our upcoming Sports Days are nearly here! Mr Beveridge is putting together an exciting and inclusive program of events for all students. Event schedules will be sent home soon.
- Senior Carnival Days: Tuesday 17 June & Wednesday 18 June
- Junior Carnival Day: Friday 20 June
Construction Updates
There’s a lot happening around the school grounds at the moment:
- Our new Year 1/2 play precinct is progressing well, with equipment installation beginning last week.
- Demolition and asbestos removal have been completed in J Block, and internal works are now underway.
- OSHC refurbishment will begin on Monday 16 June, including painting and new flooring. OSHC will temporarily relocate to the Hall for two weeks, and the OSHC team will communicate further details with families.
No Assemblies – Week 9 and 10
Due to the OSHC relocation, there will be no assemblies during Weeks 9 and 10. Our last assembly for Term 2 will be Monday 9 June.
Save the Date: Term 2 Show & Shine
Based on community feedback, our Show & Shine sessions will return to an afternoon timeslot this term. Please join us on Monday, 23 June for a showcase of student learning:
We look forward to seeing you there! |

NCCD
Why is the NCCD?
It’s that time of year again when the Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD) takes place. The NCCD is a collection that counts:
- the number of school students receiving an adjustment or ‘help’ due to disability
- the level of adjustment they are receiving to access education on the same basis as other students.
Students are counted in the NCCD if they receive ongoing adjustments at school due to disability. This ‘help’ allows them to access education on the same basis as a child without disability. The NCCD uses the definition of disability in the Disability Discrimination Act 1992.
Why is data collected?
All schools in Australia must collect information about students with disability. The NCCD ensures that the information collected is transparent, consistent and reliable. Information collected provides better information that improves understanding of students with disability. It also allows parents, guardians, carers, teachers, principals, education authorities and government to better support students with disability.
What are the benefits of the NCCD for students?
The information collected by the NCCD helps teachers, principals, education authorities and governments to better support students with disability at school. The NCCD encourages schools to review their learning and support systems and processes. This helps schools to continually improve education outcomes for all students.
Who is included in the NCCD?
The definition of disability for the NCCD is based on the broad definition under the Disability Discrimination Act 1992. The following students are examples of those who may be included in the NCCD if they need monitoring and adjustments:
- students with learning difficulties (such as dyslexia)
- students with chronic health conditions (such as epilepsy or diabetes).
Who collects information for the NCCD?
Schools identify which students will be counted in the NCCD. They base their decisions on adjustments provided for the student (after consultation with the student and/or their parents, guardians and carers), the school team’s observations and professional judgements along with any medical or other professional diagnoses. School principals must ensure that information for the NCCD is accurate.
What information is collected?
A student is counted in the NCCD if they receive reasonable adjustments at school due to disability. Each year, schools collect the following information about the student, including:
- their year of schooling
- the level of adjustment received
- the broad type of disability.
For students who have more than one disability, the school uses professional judgement to choose one category of disability. They choose the category that most affects the student’s access to education and for which adjustments are being provided.
How is the data used?
The NCCD data informs funding and work by schools and sectors. It ensures that support for students with disability becomes routine in the day-to-day practice of schools. The NCCD also supports students in the following ways.
- The NCCD helps schools better understand their legislative obligations and the Disability Standards for Education 2005.
- Schools focus on the individual adjustments that support students with disability. This encourages them to reflect on students’ needs and to better support students.
- The NCCD facilitates a collaborative and coordinated approach to supporting students with disability. It also encourages improvements in school documentation.
- The NCCD improves communication about students’ needs between schools, parents, guardians, carers and the community. The Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority (ACARA) annually publishes high-level, non identifying NCCD data
Is the NCCD compulsory?
Yes. All schools must collect and submit information each year for the NCCD. This is detailed in the Australian Education Regulation 2013.
How is students’ privacy protected?
Protecting the privacy and confidentiality of all students is an essential part of the NCCD. Data is collected within each school. Personal details, such as student names or student identifiers, are not provided to federal education authorities.
Learn more about privacy in the Public information notice. You can also visit the NCCD Portal. There is also a free e-learning resource about the Disability Discrimination Act 1992 and Disability Standards for Education 2005.
Disability Parking
To support our families of students with disabilities, we ask that only those with valid disability permits use the parking spaces located between the hall and the school library marked with a wheelchair symbol. These spaces are essential for ensuring safe and convenient access for students who require closer proximity to school facilities.
Thank you to our school community for your support regarding this matter.

- Bushdance Postponed – New Date Will Be Announced Shortly.
We’re sorry to let you know that the Bushdance has been postponed. We’ve had to move OSHC into the hall so that important painting and flooring work can be done in the OSHC building before the school holidays. With only a few weeks to go, it’s too challenging to find a new spot for the event and still make sure it’s fun and safe for everyone. Thanks for your understanding—we’ll keep you posted with a new date!
- Volunteer to Help – It’s like Making Distance Without the Ball.
Just like in sport, making metres without the ball can win the game—and for the P&C, volunteering is how we do that! Every hour you give helps reduce the need for paid staff, meaning more of our P&C funds go straight back into making the school better for our kids. The tuckshop is always keen for extra hands—whether it’s staying after drop-off to prep food, helping serve at lunch, or popping in early to help clean up. It’s not a forever commitment—just do what you can, when you can. Volunteering is a great way to meet other parents, learn more about the school, and be part of the community. Interested? Email tuckshop@craigsleapandc.org.au to find out more or to get involved! Keep an eye out for more details in the newsletter and on our P&C facebook page.
- Fundraising – A Little Bit Goes A Long Way
When it comes to fundraising, small contributions really add up! With around 600 students (and 480 families) at our school, just $5 per student in events like 5c February or the Easter Raffle can raise $3,000—that’s amazing impact from just a little effort. This year, we’re fundraising to air condition the hall and upgrade its audio-visual system. These improvements won’t just make the space more comfortable—they’ll also make it more inclusive. For some students, especially those with sensory sensitivities or disabilities, the current sound, lighting, or temperature can be overwhelming. While it might seem like a “nice to have,” these upgrades will make a real difference in helping all students feel welcome and included. Please keep an eye out for upcoming fundraisers and remember that every little bit really does help.
