Dear Craigslea Community,
It’s hard to believe we’ve reached the final fortnight of Term 2! This week has been all about energy, teamwork and school spirit as our students participated in our junior and senior sports days. A big thank you to Mr Beveridge, along with our dedicated teachers and teacher aides, for making each of the three days a fantastic experience for our students.
We also extend our congratulations to our Readers Cup teams who competed against 60 other schools on Tuesday. Our year 5 team placed 10th and year 6 team 19th overall. A fantastic achievement for both teams. Thank you, Mrs Bryce for all your hard work and support of our teams.
Looking ahead to next week, we’re excited to welcome our families to Show & Shine, host our Term 1 and 2 House Shield celebrations, and our Student Council PJ Day will take place on Friday. What a great way to finish off a fabulous term.
Student Voice at Craigslea
Last week, I met with student representatives from Years 3 to 6 to hear their reflections on the year so far. It was heartening to hear what they’ve enjoyed most about the positive changes we’ve made this year. Here's what they shared:
What they love:
- Everyone can participate in Gala Day
- Lunchtime clubs
- Fun learning opportunities
- Multipurpose court activities at break times
- Choir is open to everyone and the songs are fun
- STEM and engaging PE lessons
- Whole school assemblies on Mondays
- A variety of homework options
- Bounce Back and PBL are helping students
- The Igloo is a great space to get help or learn differently
- More support available for students
What they’d love to see:
- A single “Gotcha” slip with all LIFE expectations for teachers to circle
- More Music and PE time
- A lunchtime craft space like the Kubbi
- Name badges so students can learn each other’s names
- A senior student playground and swings
- More morning club options and lunchtime club access
- Teacher sports on Sports Days
- More extension, enrichment and focused learning opportunities
We truly value student voice at Craigslea, and their feedback will help guide our future planning. Thank you to our student leaders for your thoughtful contributions!
One School, One Book: ‘Losing the Plot’
We’re excited to launch our One School, One Book initiative to promote reading for fun and enjoyment. Our whole school will read Losing the Plot by Annaleise Byrd as part of a shared reading adventure during term 3.
We’ll officially launch the event at our whole school assembly on Monday 21 July, with a special visit from the author herself! Families are encouraged to join in at home and share the joy of reading together.

Music Gala Celebration
A heartfelt thank you to our wonderful Music team for hosting our first Music Gala for 2025 on Friday night. The evening was a celebration of the learning and hard work that has gone into music lessons this semester.
Special thanks and congratulations to Mrs Stockill, Ms Owens, Ms Andrews, Ms Kim and Mr Schick for your leadership, passion and dedication to our music program.
Construction & Facilities Update
A quick update on our infrastructure projects:
- Year 1/2 Play Precinct: A lot has changed in this space in the last fortnight with concrete and turf laid, sandstone blocking and play equipment installed. Our new playground is on track for completion early Term 3.
- J Block Renovations: Internal works are now in progress. Construction will continue into Term 3.
- OSHC Refurbishment: Internal painting and new flooring works commenced on Monday 16 June. OSHC has temporarily relocated to the Hall. Renovations are scheduled to be completed by the end of term.
Please note: Due to the temporary relocation of OSHC, there will be no Assembly in Week 10.
School Cleaners Day: Thank You to Our Cleaners
We’d like to take a moment to thank our incredible cleaning team for their tireless work in keeping our school safe, clean and welcoming every day. Their behind-the-scenes efforts are truly valued and make a big difference to our students, staff and families. We are so grateful for all that they do.

Athletics Carnival Week Wrap-Up
What a fantastic week of sport we’ve had! Over three action-packed days, students across the school participated in our annual athletics carnivals—and we were lucky to have the weather on our side.
The week kicked off on Tuesday with the Senior Track Events, where our older students gave it their all in the sprints and the gruelling 800m event. Wednesday saw impressive feats in the Field Events, with students showcasing strength, technique, and determination. Then on Friday, the Junior Carnival wrapped things up with colour, energy, and some brilliant displays of effort from our youngest athletes. The students should be incredibly proud of their efforts, sportsmanship, and enthusiasm across all events.
It was a tight contest between the houses—Maundrell, Hamilton, and Webster—throughout the three days, with one house making a big leap ahead in points by the end of the competition.
A huge thank you goes to all the parents and caregivers who came along to support. Your encouragement and cheers helped lift the atmosphere and made the week extra special. Our wonderful teachers also deserve a round of applause for stepping up to run events so smoothly, many of them learning new roles on the go.
The Overall House Winners and Senior Age Champions will be announced at a special assembly on the Top Oval on Monday 23rd at 1:45pm. We look forward to celebrating our champions and wrapping up a truly memorable carnival week.

- Bunnings BBQ – We Need You (and Your Sausage-Flipping Skills)!
Mark your calendars – our legendary Bunnings BBQ is sizzling its way to us on Saturday, 28th June! We’re calling on our wonderful parent community to lend a hand. Whether you can help at the crack of dawn, wrap things up at the end, or jump in for a 1–3-hour shift during the day, every bit counts.
Without enough volunteers, it becomes a marathon for just a few – and no one wants to be stuck flipping snags solo! Click the sign-up link and join the fun: https://volunteersignup.org/ELBAJ
- Coffee Cart Crew – Baristas Wanted (No Experience Necessary!
Our Coffee Cart has been brewing joy thanks to our fabulous OSHC baristas and a few superstar volunteers. But to keep the caffeine flowing and the fundraising growing, we need more hands on deck – and that’s where you come in! We’re offering fun, friendly training sessions early in Term 3 for anyone keen to learn the ropes (or the steam wand). It’s a great way to meet other parents, pick up a new skill, and help the school. Interested? Sign up here and join our volunteer barista squad: https://volunteersignup.org/CXLDQ
- Stay in the Loop – Read the Newsletter
We often hear, “I didn’t know that was happening!” – and we get it, life is busy. But this fortnightly newsletter is your golden ticket to staying informed about events, fundraisers, and volunteer opportunities. Please take a few minutes to read it when it lands in your inbox – and encourage other parents and carers to do the same. Got ideas to make it even better (like an AI summary or a different delivery day)? We’d love to hear them! Email us at: enquiries@craigsleapandc.org.au
- BYOD Survey – We Want Your Thoughts!
On 12th June, the school sent out a survey about the Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) program. Feedback is being gathered from parents, carers, and teachers to help decide whether the program should continue. If you’ve got strong opinions (or even mild ones), now’s the time to share them! Your voice matters. Complete the survey here: https://craigsleass.schoolzineplus.com/form/283.
