Book Week
This year book week was celebrated this week and we had our dress-up parade on Friday last week. The theme this year was Read, Grow, Inspire. A big shout out to our students and staff who shared the most incredible outfits to celebrate the joy that reading brings us. Also, thanks to our parents who attended the book week parade and for their commitment to helping our students with their costumes – these events are not possible without you!
Our reading during play time has been a huge success this week and we have had many students attend our reading sessions throughout the week. I had such a fabulous time reading with some Prep students. Thanks also to Mr Kleidon, Ms Marhinin, Mrs Wiles and Mrs Abdy for their guest appearances.
Solutions-focused Questions
Sometimes when we see our children challenged with a problem, we want to rush in and solve it for them. When we do this, we may miss the opportunity to show them we believe in their own problem-solving abilities and build their resilience. These questions can be helpful in guiding the conversation towards a solutions-focus:
What do you think is the right thing to do?
What’s the kind/brave thing to do?
Have you had to solve a problem like this before? What did you do?
How much help do you think you need with this?
What would you tell a friend to do in this situation?
What have you already tried?
When is this not a problem? Tell me about what is working?
Have a fabulous week everyone!
PBL & Social-Emotional Learning
The focus for the fortnight is: Be Independent – We try our best.
Everything that we want to achieve requires us to try our best and some effort. We know that what you do today – the effort you put in – determines your success tomorrow.
This fortnight we are talking and learning about why we try our best and what learner assets we need.
Responding to Feedback (Take it on board): Sometimes it’s hard to hear feedback, but if you can accept that feedback is help, and make the improvements, then you will continuously improve.
Persisting (Sticking to it): Can you stay on task and see your activity through to the end? Learning can be tough at times, and you may feel like giving up or doing mediocre work, but if you persist you will feel more confident next time you try something that is tricky.
Responsible Risk Taking (Have a go): When you try something new, you may expect to be good at it straight away. But it’s OK to make mistakes when learning. Keep practising and never give up! Soon you will improve and become a responsible risk-taker and a better learner.
Taking Responsibility (Stepping up): When you work in a group, make sure you contribute your ideas and help to finish tasks so your group can achieve its work. And when you’re working alone, keep up the great work and take responsibility for your own learning, time management and organisation.
Commitment to Shared Goals (We’re all in it together): You are an important part of your class, your school, your family and your community, so make sure you are a willing participant and help to encourage and assist others to achieve your shared goals.
Our aim is to guide our students out of their comfort zones as learners, so they feel confident to challenge themselves and grow.
Active School Travel
Walking Wheeling Wednesday’s
Wednesdays at Craigslea, are Walking Wheeling Wednesdays!
Join in on the Active School Travel fun next Wednesday 30/8, and dawdle with dads, dogs and the Active School Travel Team to school.
For a bit of pre-Father’s Day fun, grab dad, the dog, grandad, uncle, brother and/or friend and meet us at the park to dawdle to school together.
Meet the AST team at one of our 2 local parks (Huxtable Park or Frederick Annand Park) at 8:20am, to depart by 8:30am and arrive at school by 8:40am.
On arrival at school, courtesy of our wonderful P&C, our Fathers and Fellas are welcome to grab a Coffee & Cookie from our local vendors, Cap & Co coffee and GFSistas and have a chat together.
If you normally come to school by car, why not park and stride with us! Hope to see you there!

ICAS ASSESSMENTS
ICAS Assessment opportunities have been held over the last few weeks. While these assessments offer insight into our students' skills, I wish to inform you that we will be reviewing this implementation in 2024. ICAS Assessments currently require staff to organise and conduct the assessments in their own time and the data is not part of our assessment schedule.
Have a wonderful fornight of fun and learning,
Natalie and Sarah
Farewell Mrs Rozynski
Last week we celebrated and farewelled a golden oldie, Mrs Rozynski. She has been teaching for 43 years total with 13 glorious years at Craigslea. Mrs Rozynski has been a pillar of strength, comfort and knowledge to many in the Craigslea community, and will be greatly missed. We wish her well as she heads into retirement.

Prep |
We have been very busy learning our remaining friends in InitiaLit – Flexible Max, Vera Vulture and Yawning Yak. We have been adding adjectives to our writing; we can describe colour and size. In maths, we’ve been having fun hiding toys and giving directions to our friends to find them. Can you see the bear underneath the cushion, next to the lockers? We’ve made cute cardboard and paper robots whilst learning about the properties and uses of materials in science. |
Year 1 |
We had so much fun on our excursion to Caboolture Historic Village! We learnt all about life in the past and how different it is from our lives now. In English we are working towards using imaginative detail and adjectives in our Narrative writing to make our stories more entertaining. In Science we have been exploring and investigating different materials and how they are used effectively. In the coming weeks, we will be interviewing our grandparents to learn more about life in the past. |
Year 2 |
In Year 2 we are learning how to write very persuasive texts. Students are putting it all together now with strong opinions and very convincing arguments. In Maths we are exploring fractions. Halves, quarters and eighths are our main focus. We’ve all had fun mapping our playground and the top oval area as we learn more about mapping and the world in general. |
Year 3 |
Year 3 students have been writing information reports from start to finish on the polar bear! Students can now complete a labelled diagram and choose images appropriate to their writing. In Mathematics, students have been busy telling the time to the nearest minute and calculating change. In science, we have been having a lot of fun investigating different ways heat moves. There have been some very exciting experiments occurring in the classrooms. |
Year 3/4 |
We have a fantastic prac student, Miss Atika Dunlop, teaching with us at the moment. The class has been completing their HaSS assessments, researching the living and non-living elements of their endangered animals, comparing weather and rainfall for different parts of Australia and enjoying the hands-on learning around length, mass and capacity. We are continuing to use compound and complex sentences in our animal reports to make our information easier to read. |
Year 4 |
We are becoming report writers! Year 4 students have chosen their endangered animal and commenced researching its habitat, appearance and diet. Next week, we will be writing our information reports. In Mathematics, we are studying different types of measurements, using lots of hands-on tools such as scales and trundle wheels. The Year 4s are having a detailed look at Africa this week in HASS. |
Year 5 |
Year 5 students have been creating animals and plants with adaptations that allow the organism to survive in certain environments. We have been using scientific vocabulary to explain and label the adaptations on our diagrams. We have been using Show Not Tell to add description to events, settings and characters when writing narratives. |
Year 5/6 |
In Year 5/6W and 5/6J, students have been working on designing their experiments to explore whether life could exist on different planets. Students have chosen interesting variables to test including pH, salinity, light, temperature and even the presence of different minerals! We will be starting to record our observations over the coming weeks. |
Year 6 |
Year 6B and 6H have been very busy working on demonstrating our understanding of feature articles. We are excited to write our own and show-off our persuasive writing skills. We’ve been working with fractions in Maths and exploring natural disasters in Science. |
