Social-Emotional Learning
We have talked before about safe friends, good friends and potential friends but when you consider that most conflict takes place between the friends who are playing together, it’s worth approaching the subject again. We have been discussing this of late. It would be great if you could talk to your child about who they consider their safe friends (friends you can trust), good friends (friends that need boundaries) and potential friends (friends that need strong boundaries). If your child can articulate this, they are in control of their friendship circle to a large degree.
Booklists and Student Resource Scheme
Craigslea, like many schools, is a booklist and Student Resource Scheme (SRS) school. 2022 Booklists have already been sent home but you can also find them on the school website.
Parents will be invoiced for the SRS on day 1 of the new year. Parents who wish to opt out will need to complete a form (even if done in previous years). Opting out requires that parents purchase the SRS resources themselves. Please note that this is a more expensive way of purchasing the resources.
World Teachers’ Day: 28 October and Tuckshop and Cleaners' Day: 5 November
Over the next two weeks, we will be celebrating the important work that our teachers, cleaners and tuckshop staff do for the children in our school. We can vouch that every day, staff go above and beyond, in big and little ways, to help a child. You may hear of these acts of ‘love’ and you may not. Gifts are unnecessary but words can evoke a real sense of achievement and appreciation for what they do.
Families who may wish to write a message are welcome to submit it to the office, email directly to the staff member or send via the form attached to this link Please click here.

PREP | Things are on the move in prep. In Science this term we are using inquiry to explore the way things roll, bounce, spin and slide. Students are exploring the movement of different objects on various surfaces. Students have also started going to the computer labs to explore basic word processing skills such as font and colour. |
YEAR 1 |
Wow, what a fun start we have had to Term 4. In our Science lessons we have been exploring sound. We have learned that sound is created through vibrations that send sound waves through the air. In English we are having so much fun following and writing Procedures. This week we enjoyed writing a procedure to create a Witches Brew!!! Maths has been about exploring the language of Chance, might happen (possible), will happen (certain) and won’t happen (impossible). We are also interpreting and creating picture graphs. |
YEAR 2 |
What’s the time Mrs Wilson? This is a question we are hearing less and less now that our Year 2 students have been working so hard to read and write time to the quarter hour. Nouns, verbs, adjectives and adverbs! Our Word Superheros are becoming experts at putting these together to make excellent command sentences for our procedures. In Science we have been exploring how important water is to our everyday life. What would you do if you had no access to running water for a whole day? In Hass the students are brainstorming ways we can all care for significant places. We’d love you to share any actions your family does when you are out enjoying your significant places. My family picks up at least 20 pieces of rubbish every time we go to a beach. |
YEAR 3 |
The Grade Threes are becoming Eco Warriors due to our unit in Humanities and Social Sciences. We need to create a call to action that can be put in place at school or in our local community. We already have a SOE (Save Our Earth) club that was established and is completely run by our students, and they help to tackle the issue of litter at our school. Creating our clay sculptures from our Raw Art Day was a huge success, everyone is looking forward to painting and decorating our marine animals. |
YEAR 4 |
We have wasted no time getting into our new science unit on forces and exploring friction, gravity and magnetism. In Maths we have been learning about decimals to hundredths and in English we are learning how to be more persuasive in our writing. Look out, parents! This might mean we are more persuasive at home too! |
YEAR 5 |
As part of their English unit, the Year 5s have been learning about Banjo Paterson and some of his famous bush ballads. They have also been transforming poems into narratives. In Maths we have been practicing solving equations with unknown quantities and in Science we have been investigating various states of matter, including solids, liquids and gases. |
YEAR 6 |
Term 4 brings a huge wrap up of a year of learning. In English we are working through advertising in the media and are about to start the reading comprehension task. In maths we have started to unpack a guided inquiry around the number of chairs that best fit into the hall. In Science we are covering earthquakes other natural disasters, and in HaSS, we are looking at Women’s Suffragettes. A nice busy period. |
Next week, the following peer mediators will be receiving their Bridge Builder badge: Vaoloka, Prescilla, Joshua, Eldho, Aldin. Parents of these children are welcome to come along to assembly.
Drop any old pens and markers into the collection box that is situated in the library. Thanks to the sustainability team for leading this environmental project.
