Principal's Post
Dear Craigslea Community,
Science Week was a big success last week! Our students eagerly participated in a variety of science activities throughout the week. We were thrilled to collaborate with Craigslea State High School in promoting the wonders of science to our students.
I want to extend my congratulations to all the students (and their families) who took on the home project challenge. These creative projects, which focus on protecting endangered animals, are currently on display in our library.
Unfortunately, due to the wet weather, our lunchtime STEM challenges had to be postponed. However, students will have the opportunity to take part in these activities during first breaks in Week 8.
Congratulations to our students who competed at the Metropolitan North Athletics carnival this week.
Next week we have students representing Craigslea at a Maths Tournament, Literacy Olympics and QVA Volleyball competition. We wish them all the very best.
Book Week Parade Brings Magic to Our School!
It was wonderful to see so many parents at our Book Week parade today, celebrating this year’s theme, "Reading is Magic." Our students and teachers looked fantastic in their costumes, and I want to thank everyone for their enthusiasm and effort in making this year’s events so special.
After the parade, students teamed up with their buddy classes to enjoy some of their favourite stories together. Don’t forget to take a look at the classroom windows and doorways, which have been transformed into magical portals by our creative students.
A very big thank you to Mrs Da Conceicao and Mrs Bryce for organizing our Book Week festivities!
Year 6 Camp: A Memorable Adventure!
I would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Mrs Hollis, Mrs Casey, Mrs Lal, and Mr Young for taking our Year 6 students to camp this week. It was a fantastic three-day experience that our students will surely remember. They were bubbling with excitement as they boarded the bus on Monday, eager to embark on their camp adventure.
2025 Student Leadership
This week, I enjoyed meeting with our Year 5 students to discuss the 2025 Student Leadership process. It was inspiring to hear their passion for making a positive impact on their peers and school. On Wednesday, our Year 5 students were also visited by the School Captains of Craigslea State High School, who shared their leadership journeys.
The Student Leadership process will begin in early Term 4. More detailed information will be sent home to Year 5 families later this term.
2025 Senior Shirt Design
Earlier this year, during a meeting with our students to develop the strategic plan, our current Year 6 students expressed disappointment at not having a unique senior shirt that represents their time as seniors. Taking on this feedback, I’ve discussed with our Year 5 students the exciting opportunity to design their senior shirt for 2025.
In the coming weeks, Year 5 students will be able to submit their designs for the senior shirt. After shortlisting, students will have the chance to vote for their preferred design. I’m eagerly anticipating the creativity our students will bring to this project.
2025 Class Placement Considerations
This week through Schoolzine and email we have sent families a 2025 Class Placement Considerations form to provide an opportunity for families to share information with the school to be considered in the formation of 2025 classes. If you would like to provide information to assist in this process, please complete the electronic form before COB Friday 6 September by CLICKING HERE.
Staffing Updates
Last week we welcomed Mrs Alice Cowan-Dillon to the Craigslea team as our Head of Department – Curriculum. Mrs Cowan-Dillon joins us from Ironside SS where she provided curriculum leadership in implementing the Australian Curriculum version 9 and inquiry learning. We are very excited to have her join our school community.
Ms Marhinin continues her leave. Ms Lynley Williams continues as Acting Deputy Principal for year 3 – 6.
