Principal's Post
Dear Craigslea Community,
We have had a focused fortnight of learning at Craigslea. Our students have been busy co-constructing learning walls with their teachers and diving into their Term 3 units of learning. One of the most rewarding parts of my role as Principal is hearing the excitement in students' voices as they share their learning successes. This week’s highlight was Noah and Lachlan proudly sharing their progress in sentence reading. This Friday, Principal Afternoon Teas commence for Term 3. This special time with students allows me to hear what they are most proud of in their learning over the week and acknowledge their commitment to learning.
Morning Routines
Before school is a busy time in our school and to support the transition from home or OSHC to school we have clear routines we expect our students to follow. With the commencement of the new term, I would like to revisit our before school expectations.
- Students are not to arrive at school before 8:30am unless involved in a supervised activity
- Supervision of students commences at 8:30am in four designated areas. These are Year 1 CPA (for Prep and Year 1 students), Year 2/3 CPA, Year 4/5 Cool Courts and Year 6 CPA.
- At 8:40am students can move around their designated area and play handball (and basketball on the cool courts)
- Parents are welcome to wait with students in their year level’s designated area.
- Playground equipment, ovals and the Sustainability Garden are out of bounds before school
Our morning routines are designed to set students up for a successful day of learning.
Sustainability Garden
It has come to our attention that some students are visiting the Sustainability Garden before school. While we appreciate their enthusiasm, these unsupervised visits have resulted in damage to plants and resources within the garden. Our garden is a highly valued part of our school environment, maintained by our Sustainability group and a dedicated team of students. We will be reminding students of these expectations and our collective responsibility to care for our school environment at assembly and during classroom visits.
Science Week (10 – 18 August 2025)
This year, we are planning a week of fun-filled science activities to celebrate Science Week. The theme is "Species Survival – More than just Sustainability." We will be collaborating with Craigslea SHS throughout the week and are eager to involve our families in the activities. If you have a special interest in science or work in a science-related industry and would like to contribute, we would love to hear from you. Please email Administration@craigsleass.eq.edu.au
School Opinion Survey
This year’s School Opinion Survey runs from 22 July to 16 August 2024. Parents, caregivers and students are encouraged to participate. Your insights will help us know what our school does well and how we can improve. Participants will be emailed a link to access the survey the week before it opens. Survey responses are confidential. The survey usually takes less than 10 minutes to complete. More information can be found on the School Opinion Survey webpage or by contacting the school.
I encourage parents and carers to take the time to complete the survey and provide us valuable information as we commence planning for 2025.
Leaving Craigslea in 2025
This term we commence planning for the 2025 school year. If your family is planning to leave Craigslea at the end of the 2024 school year, could you please notify us as soon as possible via the following link - PLEASE CLICK HERE.
If you know of families wishing to join our Craigslea community, please encourage them to also contact the school office via Administration@craigsleass.eq.edu.au .
Facilities Updates
We have been busy upgrading our facilities this year. It is pleasing to see the completion of the new front fence this week, which provides greater safety for our students and adds visual appeal to the school.
Last week, I was notified that our Year 1 building will undergo a complete internal refurbishment. This is a much-needed upgrade to our early learning classrooms that our teachers are very excited to collaborate on. I will provide updates to the community as this project progresses.
Playgrounds, Playgrounds, Playgrounds
Our new prep playground is really starting to take shape and we are looking forward to its completion in the next few weeks. This week we are starting the process of engaging a project manager to progress the year 1 playground upgrade.
