2024 Learning Focus
This year, we are focused on three priorities:
- Quality teaching in every learning environment
- Student wellbeing and engagement
- High expectations and learning success for all students
This week we have reviewed Semester 1 student learning data and are pleased to see improvements in student learning outcomes across all year levels, especially in the number of students achieving A or B grades. This success is due to our collaborative efforts in deepening teacher understanding of the Australian Curriculum and using learning walls as teaching tools. Well done to our teachers and students for their hard work. We will continue this effort in Semester 2.
NAIDOC Week
NAIDOC Week (7 – 14 July) celebrates the history, culture, and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. This year’s theme is “Keep the Fire Burning! Blak, Loud and Proud,” with artwork ‘Urapun Muy’ by Deb Belyea representing fire which symbolises connection to Country and traditions. At Craigslea, we celebrated with a special assembly and classroom activities. Check out our classroom door displays when you visit the school over the next few days.
School Uniform Reminders
Our community has made a commitment that all students wear our school uniform. With winter here, students are expected to wear school-coloured jumpers. Beanies, scarves, and jewellery are not part of the uniform. Students with shoulder-length or longer hair are required to tie it back for health and safety reasons. Wearing our uniform correctly shows pride in our school.
Cooler Charge
Thank you to our P&C for organising the end-of-term Cooler Charge event. The funds raised from this event will go towards purchasing and installing water coolers, which our students will enjoy in warmer weather. We are grateful to have an active P&C and parent community committed to supporting our school.
Staffing Updates
This term, we welcome:
- Ms. Malvina Lal, teaching 5/6K
- Mr. Brendan McKeering, our new Schools Officer
Ms. Marhinin will be on leave for the first four weeks of this term. Ms. Lynley Williams will be acting Deputy Principal working with students, teachers and families in years 3, 4, 6. Mrs. McGregor (Head of Inclusion) will work with year 5 students, teachers and families.
Facilities Updates
Over the holidays, the installation of a new front fence commenced. This will provide increased safety and security. The Prep playground upgrade is delayed, with completion expected in early August. The Year 1 playground upgrade is our next priority and tendering will start this term.
2025 Prep
We look forward to welcoming 2025 Prep students and their families for stay and play mornings this term. There will be three opportunities for future preppies to experience Craigslea, helping with their transition and familiarisation with our school. If you are yet to enrol a 2025 Prep student please contact our school office.
“If we want to give children a gift, the best thing we can do is to teach them to love challenges, be intrigued by mistakes, enjoy effort, and keep on learning.” Carol S Deweck
