Capers
Prep |
The preppies have been enjoying our Julia Donaldson author study. Top hits are The Ugly Five, Superworm and Monkey Puzzle! We are proud as punch to be learning to blend 4-letter words, read different sentences and learn our final digraph friends in InitiaLit. We have been comparing the duration of time for different events – does it take longer to go to the library or go to the toilet? We’ve been exploring different toys for science to see how they can move, and ask questions like, 'will it slide or roll?' We’ve been pushing toys off ramps to find out! |
Year 1 |
Word problem Wizzes and Procedure writing Professors! Superstars of Sound and Light and Champions of detecting changes over time! Year 1 have been discovering all sorts of new ways to demonstrate their learning and share their understanding. Listening to the students read makes our hearts skip a beat as we recognise how far they have all come this year. We have just a few short weeks to spend with our precious Year 1 students before they head off on holidays. There are lots of exciting events still to come this term. Lots to look forward to. |
Year 2 |
Where has this term gone? Flying by so quickly! We’ve been measuring all sorts of things and following directions on paths to all sorts of places! Maths has been fun! In English, we’ve been writing procedures, mostly on how to make Grandma some pretty disgusting medicines. Science has been about how we use and save the world’s precious resources like water. How do you save water at your house? |
Year 3 |
In Year 3 we have been finishing off our poetry portfolios with the third poem being created for any audience on any topic we choose. We have been focusing on incorporating language features to enrich our writing. In Maths, we have continued exploring fractions and finding equivalent fractions! HASS has us exploring areas in our community that we can utilise to be active and support our wellbeing. In Science we have continued to explore the effects of heat on materials and observing ice and chocolate change from a solid to a liquid! |
Year 3/4 |
We have finished most of our assessments, with just a few questions here and there in Science and Hass to go. Good copies of our persuasive texts will be our focus in English for the coming weeks. We have some drama and dance to have fun with, as well as completing our sustainability iMovie projects, Save the Earth posters, and our Mayan Temples in Minecraft Education. Grade 4 excursion – permission and payment need to be finalised. |
Year 4 |
In Year 4, we are busy bees, completing our Term 4 assessments. We are writing persuasive texts in English and investigating forces and sustainability in Science and HaSS respectively. Students are also enjoying creating an advertisement in Media to encourage communities to become more sustainable. We are very excited about our excursion next week to Ngutana-Lui! |
Year 5 |
In Year 5 we are finishing our Storm Boy comparisons with most of us enjoying the movie more than the book. We have engaged in panel discussions about Storm Boy, and it was very interesting to hear others’ opinions and questions. In Science, we are having fun creating our own experiments on viscosity of different liquids (although it can be very messy). |
Year 5/6 |
In Year 5/6, students have been finishing the design and creation of their own print advertisements. Students have described their design choices and reflected on the effectiveness of their advertisements. Students in Year 5 have been learning about the roles of customs officers, judges and police while our Year 6 students have analysed how the rights of different groups have changed over time. |
Year 6 |
In Year 6 we have been busy working on our final assessments for primary school. We have been creating print advertisements in English, investigating how changes in the environment affect the growth and survival of living things in Science and creating video health messages in Health/Media. We can’t believe that we only have a few weeks of primary school left! |
