Transitions and Celebrations

Term four is a busy term for student learning and it is fabulous to see our students engaged and focussed.

This term we have also been preparing for our new 2024 Prep students and you may have noticed them attending school for their Prep Experience days. We are also in the process of supporting our current students to make the transition to their next year level and will once again provide an opportunity in week 10 for students to meet their teacher and class members for 2024. Our Year 6 students have also been preparing for their very exciting move to high school and the start of their new learning adventure.

There are many celebrations this term as well, please check the calendar for dates that you need to be aware of.

Reporting on Learning success

Our teachers will be preparing information for end of year reports over the next few weeks. Reports will be emailed to parents and carers on Wednesday 6 December. Please ensure that your email details with the school are current so that you receive a copy.

Media reporting of changes to school hours

Recently the Department of Education released a framework to guide any proposed changes to school hours. Unfortunately there has been some media reporting and commentary on this procedure including a suggestion that this procedure will lead to a 4-day school week.

I can assure our community and families that Queensland State Schools are operational five days per week and any changes to primary school arrangements would only be considered in exceptional circumstances. This new procedure has been designed to provide consistency of approach, especially in high school settings where senior students often participate in approved off campus activities, for example attending TAFE. I hope this provides some further clarity and understanding.

Mobile phones ‘Away for the Day’

From the beginning of 2024, all Queensland state school students will have their mobile phones switched off and ‘away for the day’.

'Away for the day' will support our school to maintain a strong focus on educational achievement, and student wellbeing and engagement by:

  • providing optimal learning and teaching environments
  • encouraging increased face-to-face social interactions between students
  • promoting the health and wellbeing of students through increased physical activity at break times
  • reducing the potential for students to be exposed to the negative impacts of the digital world, resulting from unsafe or inappropriate technology use.

Have a safe week!
