PBL & Social-Emotional Learning LIFE.jpg
The focus for the fortnight is: Be a Friend – We treat others as we wish to be treated.

The focus this fortnight turns to the expectation of Be a Friend, the value of respect and the importance of using kind words, kind voice and kind actions. Kindness is so easy to show towards others and evokes feelings of happiness in both the giver and receiver. Teachers will discuss the importance of treating others the way you would like to be treated.

At Craigslea SS this looks and sounds like:F_Be_a_Friend_2_.jpg

  • We use courtesy words in a calm voice
  • We consider how we would feel if that happened to us
  • We think carefully about what we say before we say it
  • We understand how our words and actions affect others
  • We keep our body calm and our hands and feet to ourself
  • We allow others to participate in activities and share resources
  • We respect others space.

Get Help

Being able to know how to ask for help in the right way and at the right time can be life saving for some children. Many children ask for help in the wrong way and at the wrong time, and eventually stop asking for help because they feel adults either don’t care or don’t listen. Over the last fortnight we have been looking at some simple and powerful ways to teach your children how to be problem solvers and seek the help they need. These skills are really helpful for children to use anywhere and for the rest of their life.

Tips to teach this skill at home:

  1. Listen, really listen to them. Give them eye contact, repeat back what they say.
  2. Ask them what they tried that worked and what didn’t work.
  3. Have them practise asking for help from an adult with you. Encourage them to use this skill at home when they need your help.
  4. Encourage them, especially any effort they have tried to solve the problem.
  5. Ask them if they have any ideas of what they would like you to do to help.
  6. Consider calling their teacher and organising to have a chat about what is happening and how you can work together to empower your child.
  7. If the conflict is with a sibling, consider whether you need to step in and mediate or talk to your other child about consequences.

Walking Wheeling Wednesday’s

Wednesdays at Craigslea, are Walking Wheeling Wednesdays!

Join in on the Active School Travel fun next Wednesday 13 September and Walk Like a Pirate with the Active School Travel Team to school.
pirate.jpg

For a bit of end of term fun, grab some mates, brush up on some pirate lingo and meet us at the park to walk to school together whilst searching for some golden treasure and sharing a pirate joke or two! To fully embrace the pirate silliness, feel free to add some pirate paraphernalia to your school uniform – there may even be some extra treasure for those who do ?

Meet the AST team at one of our 2 local parks (Huxtable Park or Frederick Annand Park) at 8:30am, to depart by 8:40am and arrive at school by 8:50am.

If you normally come to school by car, why not park and stride with us! Hope to see you there! #activeschooltravel

The Golden Boot Trophy for August has been awarded to the class with the highest percentage of active travellers who come to school by scooter/skateboard. We are proud to announce that 1H are the winners for August!!! Congratulations 1H and their families for keeping active whilst reducing traffic around our school.

When we return after the holidays, October’s Golden Boot will be awarded to the class with highest percentage of walkers.

Check out how your class is going with actively traveling to school:
