Capers
Prep |
In Prep, students have been exploring materials and their properties. We have been looking at lots of materials that are smooth, flexible and hard. In maths, we have been learning to compare objects that are light and heavy. We are enjoying hefting anything we can find in the classroom. Ask your child what a digraph is. I wonder if they’ll be able to tell you about our new friends ‘ll’, ‘ss’, ‘ff’, ‘ck’ and ‘sh’. |
Year 1 |
We have been exploring and investigating marvellous materials. We planned, tested and reflected on which materials are the best for holding water. In HASS we have been learning about how daily life has changed over time, this week we will be learning how to churn butter! In English we have been working on ‘bumping up’ our character preference writing, by using evidence from the text and making personal connections to the characters. |
Year 2 |
Look out Mum and Dad...we’re learning to be more persuasive! Our writing is all about persuading someone to agree with our point of view using some very clever tricks and devices. In Maths we are learning how to represent numbers in a variety of ways. Push and Pull Forces are our focus in Science and we’ve learned about them in a recent walk to John Goss Reserve. |
Year 3 |
Shopping Time! This week in year 3 we had a ‘Buy Smart’ presentation all about creating a budget and being smart with our money. We really enjoyed creating a budget for a party. We are working on building our learning walls in our classrooms for writing and they are looking fantastic! They include some of our amazing vocabulary words, examples of turning notes into sentences and the structure of an information report. |
Year 3/4 |
We are examining the structural and language features needed to construct an information report. We are looking at subject-specific vocabulary and precise verbs. We are finalising decimals and place value and are moving onto money. Our HaSS lessons will revise using grid coordinates and relative position using a compass. |
Year 4 |
The Year 4 students are practising writing TEEL paragraphs about Australian animals as part of English. In Mathematics, we are continuing to use place value to understand decimals and connect them with fractions. We have also begun investigating how to solve real-world problems involving money. Students are also studying the life cycles of many living things in Science. |
Year 5 |
In English, Year 5 have been analysing language features and structure of Australian Bush Ballads and learning how language features and vocabulary influence interpretations of setting, characters and events. We are learning the difference between area and perimeter and investigating different ways of finding the area and perimeter of different shapes in Maths. |
Year 5/6 |
In 5/6J and 5/6W, students have begun identifying the structural components of news texts and started brainstorming creative language features to include in our own feature articles. Students have also conducted various activities to better understand the complexity of our solar system (and beyond). In the coming weeks, we will start investigating whether any of these far-fetched places in our universe may have the necessary requirements to sustain living things. |
Year 6 |
In Year 6, students have started looking at the structural, language and visual features of different news texts. Students have been investigating how high modality can be used to communicate a strong point of view when writing persuasively. |
