Capers
Prep |
It is wonderful to see all our prep students reconnecting with old friends and making new ones. Now that we have been at school for 100 day it is time to have a celebration for 100 days smarter. This term in English, we will be exploring ways to write on a topic and to give more detailed descriptions. In our phonics program we have just learned our first digraph ‘ck’. |
Year 1 |
In Year 1 this term we will be exploring narratives. Students will be discussing and writing character preferences for each story. Our HASS topic is ‘Past and Present’. We will be investigating and comparing objects from the past with those from the present, considering how things have changed over time. In Science we are excited to begin our investigation of different materials and their properties. We are looking forward to conducting experiments through inquiry, where we will make predictions, record and share our observations. |
Year 2 |
In English this term we will be learning all about being persuasive. Look out for some convincing arguments about when to go to bed! Our Science topic is ‘Push and Pull Forces’. We are looking forward to learning more about these when we visit John Goss Reserve next week. In HaSS our focus will be on learning about our local area, so this wonderful park will be our first investigation. |
Year 3 |
In English, we are learning about information reports. We will be developing our ability to research places and animals in HASS. In Science, we will be learning about solids, liquids and gases. We are looking forward to our incursion about money and finances next week! |
Year 3/4 |
We are exploring informative texts and endangered animals. In HaSS we will be studying maps at a local and national scale. We are also setting new goals for the term and brainstorming some strategies to help us achieve these. |
Year 4 |
In Year 4, we are studying informative texts in English. We will be practising our note-taking skills by viewing a variety of sources and writing down the most important points to use in our information reports later. In HASS, our focus has moved towards geography. We will be looking at the different types of maps, with a particular focus on the features of the African and South American continents. |
Year 5 |
Year 5 are having an amazing start to the term exploring the big question ‘What is Poetry?’. In Science, we are looking at animal adaptations and in HASS we are exploring the Gold Rush. This links nicely with our first mini unit for Mathematics which is all about maps! |
Year 5/6 |
In 5/6J and 5/6W, students have begun analysing the structural and language features found in feature articles and other news media. In Science, we are excited to begin an inquiry into the living conditions required for organisms to survive...we are interested to know whether any other planets or moons in our solar system may have some of these conditions. |
Year 6 |
In HASS, Year 6 have begun looking at the issues Australia faced before the country federated. We will be interpreting a range of historical sources and identifying the contributions made by Sir Henry Parkes and how his actions may have led to the formation of the Australian democratic government. |
