Prep

Our amazing prep children have been busily reconnecting with their friends as they begin learning new content. This term in English, our students will start learning foundation sentence writing skills. Children will also start bringing home levelled home readers to support their developing word recognition.

Year 1

Year 1 are eagerly watching the construction progress of the outdoor learning area and discussing how we can use the space when it is finished. In English we are learning to retell stories and in Maths we are starting off with skip counting in tens, fives and twos. Science this term will have us observing the differences between day and night and for Hass we will be planting and caring for our gardens.

Year 2

The year two classes have been learning a dance with Mrs Doyle called “Catch a Crayon”. Now we’ve started reading about the crayons that Duncan has lost or broken. Deciding which crayon is our favourite has been tricky because they all have interesting stories! We have started comparing the crayons and stating our preference. In Maths we’ve continued working on different number patterns. In Science we can’t wait to see what happens to our caterpillars!

Year 3

Year 3 have had an amazing start to the term. In English, we are learning all about narratives and reading Kumiko and the Dragon. In Maths we are starting off the term by looking at different types of measurement and Science we will be investigating whether we are the only living things at our school.

Year 3/4

We have started exploring narratives in which the characters are on a journey. We explored the properties of multiplying odd and even numbers and used some problem-solving strategies. We got excited about discovering the convict history of the Brisbane/Moreton Bay region as we came up with some inquiry questions.

Year 4

Year 4 have started the term by using our understanding of odd and even numbers to solve equations in Mathematics. In English, we have read a historical narrative about child convicts. We will be writing our own historical stories later in the term. Our Science unit has led us to discuss the properties and uses of different materials.

Year 5

Year 5 are off to an amazing start with our learning. In English, we are learning all about being persuasive and giving students a voice to make a positive change. In Mathematics, we have been looking at shape and symmetry and creating educational videos and in Science we are learning all about SPACE!

Year 5/6

In 5/6J and 5/6W, we have hit the ground running for Term 2. In Science, we have started looking at the properties of solids, liquids and gases and how these may undergo physical or chemical changes when heat is added or removed. In HASS, we are conducting our own inquiry into the best types of sustainable travel choices and what this might look like in the creation of sustainable cities in the future. Some of us might very well turn into urban planners!

Year 6

In Year 6, students have started looking at the target audience and purpose of different text types. We will be working on comparing literary and informative texts by analysing their text structures, language features and visual features. We are also off and away on our Technologies inquiry into a community problem. We are excited to start building our apps later in the term.
