Principal's Post
Welcome back to Term 2. We have had a great start and it has been wonderful to see the students and teachers focused on the next steps in their learning. As the weather has (thankfully!) been a bit cooler, it has also been fabulous to see more of our students out on the oval playing sports. I may even consider starting up my hand ball challenges again
Travelling to school
As we return to school and the weather is much cooler, many more students may be walking or riding to school. If your child is walking to school with an older sibling, please have a chat with them about getting to school safely. It is important that students do not stop along the way to play. It is also a good opportunity to chat about reporting anything they see or hear that doesn’t feel safe.
School gates and supervision
Our school staff are rostered on to duty at our school gates before and after school. Students who are still waiting to be collected at 3:15pm are walked to the office and parents called. A decision has been made to redirect supervision from the gate at Buran St into the school ground as there were not a lot of families using this entrance. Hamilton Rd, Ballinger St, and Kittabilla St are all supervised by school staff. We also have staff supervising students in the Yr 6 covered area, Yr 2/3 covered area and Cool Courts from 8:30am – 8:50am before the start of the school day.
School Review
All Queensland state schools and centres are reviewed by the Department of Education at least once every 4 years and is in line with 4 year Strategic Plan. This term in week 6, we will participate in our School Review. The reviews are conducted by experienced school principals. The review will provide feedback on school performance and data and the reviewers will speak with a range of school community members including staff, parents and students. This will provide guidance for our school and community discussions and the direction of the next strategic plan.
P&C Executive
On behalf of our school community, we thank our P&C committee for their contributions last year. Last term the Annual General Meeting was held and we acknowledged the efforts of the outgoing executive, and welcomed newly elected positions for 2023.
I am pleased to announce the 2023 elected members:
Joel Miller (President)
Raechal Dare (Vice-President)
Charmaine Manewell (Vice-President)
Sophie Ni (Treasurer)
Kate Tavendale (Secretary)
Parents are encouraged and welcome to join the P&C. The next meeting will be held on Monday May 8 at 7pm in the Outside School Hours Care Building.
