Capers

Prep

In InitiaLit, Prep has been busy learning their first four sounds, and are beginning to discriminate between each sound through pictures sorts. Students have also been practicing their newly learned sounds to decode three sound words and to blend them back together.

Year 1

In HaSS, Year Ones have been hard at work learning how to draw a map using a bird’s eye view perspective – tricky business! In Maths, we are practicing our Rainbow Facts and Doubles, to help us answer word problems more efficiently. We are also looking forward to the Bunyaville ‘My Patch’ Incursion happening next week!

Year 2

Counting in tens is easy for most of us when we start at ten. What happens if we start at number six? What happens if we start at six and count in fives? We’ve been exploring different counting patterns and different ways to represent numbers. Our narratives are coming together now as we attempt putting all the paragraphs together to write a complete imaginative text. Our investigations in science have included finding out which materials are waterproof. What can you make to protect yourself from getting wet in the rain?

Year 3

In English, Year Threes have been working hard at completing a full paragraph using the PEEL format. This week we have started including our opinion statement as our introduction into our persuasive text writing. In Maths, we have been using many strategies to solve addition and subtraction problems. Year Threes have been exploring shadows in science and having fun tracing a buddy’s shadow outside. It’s getting closer and closer to our excursion! We are super excited!

Year 3/4

We are not far away from our excursions now. The students in 3/4D have been working hard on their number patterns and code cracking different Mensa puzzles that Mrs D has given them. We are getting ready for our poetry assessment and will be finished our oil pastel turtle drawings this week.  Our reading buddy program has been working well so far. We also have one more museum kit to explore this week.

Year 4

The Year 4 students have been drawing together all their knowledge and understanding to write a variety of styles of poems as part of their assessment. Coming up they will get to recite a poem to an audience. In Mathematics students have been investigating strategies used to efficiently answer multiplication and division number facts along with being introduced to algebra through finding missing numbers in an equation. Work in HASS and Science has been tailored to link into our excursion to Bunyaville Environmental Education Centre in the next couple of weeks.

Year 5

Year 5 are enjoying researching European countries in HASS. As part of our inquiry unit, we worked collaboratively as a class to decide which countries were of genuine interest to us (each class is doing something totally different). In Mathematics, we are looking at real world application of data which also links to our HASS. In English, we are continuing to add to our Bump It Up displays.

Year 5/6

In 5/6, students have been looking at the components that form networks in Technologies and identifying whether these may be internal or external components or peripheral devices. Students have also been investigating the question: “Why do people live where they do?”. This question has led us down a rabbit hole of demographic, economic and environmental data!

Year 6

In Year 6, students have been analysing the language features used within humorous narratives and explaining their impact on a target audience. In Science, students have been identifying the impact of faults in a circuit and constructing their own simple circuits out of conductive materials.
