We are so excited to be starting school as little learners! We are learning what are words, syllables and rhyming words. We have been studying numbers 1 through till 5 so far. The weather sure has been hot! We’ve been observing the weather and discussing how it affects us. In HaSS, we have been learning about our families. For health, we are learning about the zones of regulation. |
Year 1 |
What a wonderful start to the year! Year 1 have hit the ground running with lots of learning around routines and expectations. In Maths we have been learning about those tricky teen numbers. In English we have been writing factual sentences about Australian animals. In HaSS we have been wondering about our Garden and what we could plant, and how we can care for it. |
Year 2 |
What a scorching start to the school year! And we don’t just mean the weather! The Yr 2’s have gotten off to a great start...establishing new routines, learning new expectations and making new friends. We’re learning about calendars, narratives, materials and how things were in the past before new technologies made life a whole lot easier. Thank goodness someone invented the air conditioner! |
Year 3 |
We have started off with a roaring start to our 2023 year! In English students have been learning to write and opinion and some evidence to back up their point of view for our persuasive writing unit. We have been focussing on number patterns and recognising numbers up to and beyond 1000. We’ve been diving deep into our Science unit and discovering how the Sun, Moon and Earth are connected. |
Year 3/4 |
We are starting with cybersafety as part of our Health and HaSS units and identifying what to do to keep us safe. Grade 3 will be examining cultural celebrations around the world and Grade 4 will be looking at what events have caused changes and what has stayed the same. In Mathematics we are finishing our chance and probability activities and will be delving deeper into number and patterns. In English we are focusing on quatrains with different rhyming patterns and language features. |
Year 4 |
In English students have started to learn about the different types of poems and poetic features with a focus on humorous poems. Students are wrapping up their learning in Mathematics about probability and the likelihood of events happening using vocabulary such as definite, likely, even, unlikely and impossible. Shortly students will be looking at times tables and the relationship between multiplication and division. Being aware of impacts on the Earth’s surface and the difference between weathering and erosion are also being investigated in Science. |
Year 5 |
Year 5 have had a lovely start to the year learning all about ‘Narrative’ in English and ‘Factors and Multiples’ in Mathematics. Our unit started with us writing stories to a stimulus ‘I thought my pet was ordinary until...’ and we have worked on bumping those up with sizzling starts. We’ve enjoyed reading daily Brainstorm stories written by children our own age and have even learnt a dance in Mathematics called ‘Multiply Multiples’! |
Year 5/6 |
In 5/6J and 5/6W, we have been diligently setting up our classroom routines and procedures. Both of our classrooms are shaping up to be very positive and productive learning spaces. In English, we have started analysing the language features and structures used to create humour in narratives and started to apply these to our own writings. We can’t wait to show you our hilarious Andy Griffith inspired stories. |
Year 6 |
In Year 6, we have made a strong start to the year in all our subject areas. We have started looking at the components of electrical circuits and what is required for electricity to flow. In Mathematics, we have reviewed how to identify factors and multiples and begun to look at strategies for solving division and multiplication problems. |
