Dear Parents/Carers,

MUSIC SHOWCASE AND 50TH ANNIVERSARY EVENT

The events of Friday September 9 and Saturday September 10 will be memorable moments in my time at Craigslea. It was a wonderful display of our community spirit. I appreciate the effort parents and carers put into ensuring their children were present for their performances at Craigslea State High School for Showcase, as well as in the Hall for the 50th Anniversary Celebration.  In this day and age, it is not uncommon for families to opt out of such events with life being so busy. However in not doing so, it is a fantastic lesson for the next generation about what it means to be part of a community and part of a team where everyone is important.

There are many people to thank. Pauline Stockill (Music Teacher) and Sally Doyle (Choir Assistant) for their preparation of the choir performance which gave me chills; the instrumental music teachers (Jen Owen, Brendan Schick and Amanda Jerram) and the excellent performances from their students. A number of our staff attended to support Mrs Stockill on the evening which was much appreciated.

The buzz at the 50th Anniversary event was incredible. Children having fun at all the activities planned for them thanks to OSHC and the P and the C; families enthusiastically watching their children's performances in the hall; everyone mingling whilst eating, drinking and listening to the wonderful jazz band; the atmosphere in the classrooms watching past students gasp at seeing their Year 6 photo and running into past teachers and classmates. The staff have worked all year to prepare the children's items for the capsule which will be re-buried in the last week of the school year as well as for the hall performances. Thanks to the staff as there were a number who worked hard to get the rooms ready with the displays and those who played a key role on Saturday making sure everything ran smoothly particularly Erin Wiles (Head of Inclusive Curriculum, Natalie Marhinin and Sarah Abdy (Deputy Principals) and Alison Jones and Pauline Stockill in the hall. Special thanks to P and C President Elizabeth Lynch, Joel Miller and Sarah Hands (P and C Vice Presidents) and P and C Treasurer Paul Madey for everything they did to make sure the event was such a success.  Brad Scott who put together the children's book and the 50th Anniversary Book as well as creating the classroom and Hall PowerPoint Displays.

Our mural is almost finished thanks to artist Wendy Cumes-Rowell who has done a beautiful job at capturing the work of the Winning Artists who entered our 50th Anniversary Art Competition. I encourage you all to stop by and have a look at how it has turned out.

As we near the end of our 50th birthday year, there will be a lot of great memories to cherish.
