Prep

This week Prep students have enjoyed exploring collage to make faces, as well as looking at all the materials we have learnt about and their properties. Children have enjoyed welcoming Kindy children into their classrooms and giving them a Prep experience. They have shown wonderful friendship and leadership skills. We are looking forward to performing for you all on Saturday at the 50th  celebration.

Year 1

This week Year 1 students have been busy planning their science assessment to answer the following question – How do I build a bridge that will hold a toy goat? Students have also been exploring items from the Queensland Museum around the topic of - Changes over time in their writing.

Year 2

Over the last few weeks, Year 2 have been busily writing their persuasive letter for Mrs Abdy about Craigslea’s therapy dog, Roxy. In Science, we have been busy exploring the forces of push and pull and the effects strength and surfaces can have. Year 2 have been working hard on their performance for the 50th anniversary and are excited to perform it this Saturday!

Year 3

Over the past two weeks, Year 3 have been working really hard through a number of key areas. In English, students have continued to develop great informative texts on the Great Barrier Reef, and in Maths, students have covered time and money. Then in Science, we have all worked through a couple of fun investigations based on ‘heat’ and finally in HaSS, everyone has been wrapping up their work on how and why places are similar and different. We’ve been a very busy cohort.

Year 4

The Year 4 students have really enjoyed the learning undertaken involving the growth of plants and chickens. We farewelled last Friday most of the chickens who had grown from eggs to hatchlings to chicks. Students are finalising their information reports on an endangered animal of Africa or South America. Currently we are exploring how to measure length, mass and capacity accurately using kitchen scales, tape measures and measuring cups and jugs. WE look forward to seeing everyone on Saturday, gathering at 2.15p.m. for our 2.30p.m. performance.

Year 5

Year 5 are really enjoying their learning in Digital Technology. The students are in the process of creating their very own ‘Maze Game’ with moving sprites, tokens and enemies using Scratch! We are also learning the art of performing poetry by adding multimodal components to our presentations.

Year 6

In Year 6, students have been working on drafting their feature articles. In HASS, we have been looking at the roles and processes of the Australian government. In Science, students have been investigating methods to categorise wind speeds in cyclones.
