Dear Craigslea State School Families and Friends,

It has been an absolute pleasure getting to know Craigslea State School community and the Craigslea way over the last two weeks. Students, staff and parents have continued to introduce themselves and check in with me, making me feel very welcome and part of a very passionate and friendly school community.

Throughout my time at Craigslea teachers have invited me to come and work in in their classrooms. As soon as I stepped into the learning environments, I got a feel for the Craigslea way with students demonstrating Craigslea State School core values – Be a Learner, Be Independent, Be a Friend and Be Safe in all Environments. When I asked students how they made sure that they demonstrate the core values everyday, they could explain expectations they need to follow for each core value with students using language such as:

‘To be a learner I need to be prepared’

‘To be independent I need to take responsibility for my actions’

‘To be a friend I need to remember to listen to others’

‘To be safe in all environments I must keep my hands and feet to myself’

Thank you to all the staff and students that welcomed me into their classrooms to share their learning. The enthusiasm and energy that I experienced was inspiring.

Over the last two weeks our Year 3 and Year 5 students have completed their NAPLAN online tests. Congratulations to all students that completed this assessment, and a thank you to the Craigslea staff for ensuring our Year 3 and Year 5 students were ready to complete the assessments.

This week is my last week here at Craigslea with Mrs Kathy Canavan returning in the second half of next week after she has completed a school review on behalf of Education Queensland, in Mackay. I have very much enjoyed my time here and wish everyone the best for a great year ahead.
