Deputy Principal's Post
NAPLAN
Students in Year 3 and 5 will be participating in NAPLAN from 10 to 20 May.
NAPLAN is just one aspect of a school’s assessment and reporting process. It doesn’t replace ongoing assessments made by teachers about student performance, but it can provide teachers with additional information about students’ progress.
An advantage of NAPLAN Online is the opportunity to space out each of the tests over the NAPLAN testing period, allowing our students to have a break between test days. Students who are absent for a test are able to complete a catch-up test when they return to school as long as this is within the testing timeframe. Please find below the schedule for the NAPLAN testing for 2022.

Term 2 Curriculum Snapshot
Please find in the links below the Curriculum Snapshots for Term 2. These provide an overview of the learning your child will be in engaged in during the term.
PBL & Social-Emotional Learning
The focus for the fortnight is:
Be Independent - I know my job, your job, our job.
Classrooms are a team of people, children and adults, who work together to progress the learning of each and every student. Knowing our jobs and how these fit together helps to build an effective classroom community.
Children who know, understand and demonstrate their job build their independence, feel success and are ready to learn. Some student jobs are: coming to school prepared, paying attention, actively participating, staying on task and completing work.
Our teachers do an amazing job at building our students independence by differentiating their teaching so students are successful learners, guide students when they need help, giving feedback and showing students what they need to do to improve.
Together, children and teachers have common jobs. These jobs are like common goals that foster the class community, as everyone is working together for the success of the students. Our jobs together are: to do our personal best, listen to each other, respect and help each other, know our jobs and be responsible for them.
Schools and the NDIS
The education department recognises that NDIS supports may contribute to improving a student’s ability to access and participate in education and achieve. The NDIS supports eligible students, through NDIS Plans, to access reasonable and necessary supports for daily living and to achieve their personal goals. The NDIS does not fund supports and services that are the responsibility of the education system.
Parents may request that NDIS providers, who are engaged either by them or NDIS plan managers, deliver supports included in NDIS plans at school, during school time.
At Craigslea we have a policy that outlines the process for this to happen. The Principal will consider and make decisions about requests from parents for NDIS providers to deliver NDIS supports at school, during school time on a case-by-case basis. This means that NDIS providers who are already delivering NDIS supports to another student/s at the school or have been granted access at another school do not automatically have the right to access our school.
If parents wish to have an external provider provide support for their child at school, they should contact Natalie Marhinin (nmarh1@eq.edu.au) to request a Parent Request Form for external providers providing support during school hours. Once the request has been completed and submitted to the school, it will be considered by a Leadership Team Member, keeping in mind the Department's guiding principles, then contact parents outlining request approval and next steps. Considerations regarding spaces where school staff can supervise, the classroom learning that will be missed are all part of the decision-making process as to whether the in-school support can proceed.

Active School Travel
Check out our new Active Travel map below!
Where’s Wally? Walk – 18 May 2022
How easy is it for you to walk, ride or catch public transport to school? It just became a whole lot easier to plan with our new Active Travel map.
Brisbane City Council has created our own customised map as part of our Active School Travel program. The map makes it simple for you to find your best walking, riding or public transport route to school. It highlights local walking and riding paths, crossings, bus stops, parks and playgrounds, and other local points of interest.
The map features suggested active travel routes (pink) where you can park outside the 6-8 minute walk radius from the school gate and walk or ride the final part of your journey. Part way is okay! With a magnet on the back, the map can be kept prominently on your fridge as a reminder of your active travel options.
To launch the map and to celebrate National Walk Safely to School Day we will be holding a Where’s Wally? Walk on Wednesday 18 May 2022.
Join in on the Active School Travel fun on the 18th of May as we meet up at one of two designated parks (Redbourne St and Craigslea St) and walk to school with the Active Travel Team. Along the way we will be keeping an eye out to find Wally! If we find Wally, Wally will give us a ticket to go into a lucky draw to win an awesome sports pack! Wally will also have something special for the first person to spot them. Look out for more information about the Where’s Wally? Walk closer to the date.
Remember Active School Travel is one of the easiest ways to incorporate physical activity into everyday life for all children. How will you actively travel with us next Walking Wheeling Wednesday? #activeschooltravel
Kind regards,
Sarah Abdy and Natalie Marhinin
