Capers
Prep | In Prep, we have been settling into school life. We are learning to be independent with our belongings and be safe in all the different places around our school. We are enjoying learning about the weather in Science and sharing information about our families in HaSS. |
Year 1 | In Year 1, the students have been learning how to represent the teen numbers in different ways. In English, the students have identified the purpose and structure of information reports and are now writing about different animals. The museum has come to the classroom in Science, with students learning about animals and their habitats. |
Year 2 | What a start to the year! Year 2 have started strong with lots of discussion around time and calendars. We’ve improved our sentence writing with lots of work using adjectives and conjunctions! Science has been all about materials and their properties and in HaSS we’ve been learning about how technology has changed the way we do things. |
Year 3 | In Year 3, the students have been identifying missing elements of the 2s, 3s, 5s and 10s counting sequences and describing the conditions that make numbers odd or even. While in Science, they enjoyed an inquiry task “How does the sun and moon affect our lives?”. |
Year 4 | We have been rocking Science in year 4, studying geology and beginning to learn about weathering and erosion. In HASS, we have been learning about the difference between rules and laws and the consequences of breaking them. "The Twits" has been a disgustingly entertaining novel to read as we learn about the effects language has on reader engagement and in Maths we are studying chance and how events are dependent and independent. |
Year 5 | What a great start to the year! We have hit the ground running. This term, our English unit is focused on persuasive texts. In Science, we viewed some animal artefacts from the Queensland Museum. This has helped the students to visualise animal adaptations close-up. For Mathematics, the focus has been on multiples and factors. We have begun to discuss our Bridge Builder skills for conflict resolution. |
Year 6 | In Year 6 Science, students have been busy experimenting with the construction of simple, series and parallel circuits and identifying the components necessary for electricity to flow. In English, we have examined the requirements for effective paragraphs and selected writing goals for the next two weeks! |
