Principal's Post

Dear Parents/Carers,

Thank You!

At Craigslea, we always have reason to be thankful. Last week, during World Teachers' Day we had the opportunity to thank our teachers for their commitment to our students during an afternoon tea. Our P and C President Elizabeth Lynch, presented our teachers with World Teachers' Day stickers and badges and Ms Green, Mrs Abdy and myself made each teacher a book full of messages from their students demonstrating what they appreciate about them. The looks on the teachers' faces as they were presented with their book in their classroom or on assembly was priceless. Click the gallery below to see some of these messages.

In the next week, we are thanking our Cleaners, Tuckshop and Uniform Shop Staff for how they go above and beyond for staff, students and their families. On Monday November 8, between 6 and 7pm, the school leadership team is holding a function to thank our volunteers with some light refreshments. Please CLICK HERE  to RSVP for this event. At this stage the function will be held in the staff room dependent on numbers.

It is important at this time of year, to recognise that it is much more difficult for schools to deliver quality outcomes without the contributions made by volunteers and the additional tasks taken on voluntarily by the paid staff. Our school is so fortunate to have so many of these wonderful people.

Senior Leader 2022 Process

In the coming weeks we will be commencing the interview process for School Captains, Vice-Captains, House Captains and Music Captains. There are approximately 90 students in Year 6 and just 16 of these students can achieve a Captain position. The selection process is rigorous and requires that students expecting to be considered for Captain positions have upheld the highest standards in Year 5 in terms of their engagement in learning, conduct in the classroom and playground, their social relationships and their ability to lead others. All students who have nominated for these positions had to submit a PowerPoint, video or written essay and will attend an interview with the school leadership team.  As a result of these processes, students will be informed of the requirement to prepare a speech so that students in Years 5 and 6, 2022 can then vote for their student of choice for that position, after they have heard the speech.

Students nominating for Tech Crew will attend a trial taking place during the weeks 7 and 9 assemblies. A decision will me made after that time.

Senior Leaders will be selected after the the Captain and Tech Crew processes are completed. Students who do not achieve Senior Leadership will receive feedback and will be supported to put together an action plan to work towards achieving this goal by the end of Term 1 or Term 2.

Students will also be able to apply to be Bridge Builders and based on their application and demonstrated ability to resolve their own conflict, will be put forward to attend the two days of Bridge Builder training. Mrs Jocelyn Chirnside (our Bridge Builders Coach) recommends those students to us that best demonstrated these abilities during the training to take on the Bridge Builder role.

At this time, there will be disappointment for some students who do not receive the role for which they applied. It is important that parents put it in perspective for their children and reiterate there is just 16 Captain roles for 90 students. Students in Year 5 were told at the start of the year and throughout, the standards of classroom and playground behaviour that are expected from Captains and Leaders at this school. If they miss out this time, it means there are just not where they need to be to take on leadership-yet. They have another opportunity early next year or in their high school years.

Have a good week,

Kathy
