Capers

Prep Prep students have been taking a leadership role in showing prospective Prep students around our classrooms. We have also been designing a new school hat in Science and exploring how we can care for our special places. Of course, we never stop reading and writing, so we have been weaving this into all areas of our learning. We have also been finding out more information about our friends by asking questions and collecting data in Maths, including ways to show our findings. Keep up the great work Preps!

In year one we are adding adjectives and adverbs to make our stories interesting. In Mathematics, we are exploring different ways of measuring capacity. In Science, we are experimenting with the ways materials can be changed. In Health and Art, we are learning to use a range of strategies to help get back to the learning zone.

Year 2 have heard some disappointing news this week but they are writing persuasive letters to take a stand against a favourite community space by Council into a carpark! In HaSS, we have been discovering lots of information about famous Australian landmarks and wondering how these places are significant to people. I wonder what might be the best design for a really successful toy car track? We have been learning about all the forces that would affect our design. Now it’s time to design, create, test and evaluate.

We have been typing our English information reports and adding images to make them ready for publishing.  In our HASS, we have explored what human and natural features are and we are identifying these features for places such as the Great Barrier Reef and Uluru. In Science, we have been identifying examples of conduction, radiation and convention and how heat can be transferred through different materials.

Year 4 students have been busy working towards the completion of assessment tasks. In English, this has been finalising the draft copies of an information report on an Australian endangered species prior to publishing the good copy as a magazine article. This same animal will be the basis of their inquiry in Science of the life cycle. In Drama, it has meant the recording of their historical recount presentation which will then be enhanced and edited in Media Studies using the Imovie program.

The Year 5s have been working hard to finalise our Storm Boy reading and writing tasks.  In Maths, we have been using our number fact skills and calculation strategies to work on budgets.
Year

Student in Year 6 have been busily recording observations for their Science Investigations into the inquiry question: “Which planet, other than Earth, is most suitable to sustain life?”. Some students have been growing tomato plants and others have been growing yeast and placing these in situations that mimic planetary conditions. Our class pets, our beloved SeaMonkeyz, have been thriving and teaching us a lot about simple forms of life and how they can adapt to extreme conditions (I.e. being freezedried!)

Wow.  Can't believe it but we are now only a week away from the end of Term 3. Where has the time gone? In English, we are working on feature articles and in Maths, fractions and units of measurement. Meanwhile in Science, our investigations are well and truly underway, and in HaSS we are unpacking the three levels of government. In Health, we are keeping a diary on physical, social and emotional goals. Finally in Visual Art, we have started our recycled art creations. A very, very busy end to another great term.
