Capers

Prep In Prep, we love to ask questions and collect information about our friends. We have been directing our friends around the playground and making numbers. All of this is just in Maths! When writing, we are writing sentences that link together and adding interesting words. We have also been reading and listening to lots of different books and practicing our sight words. We love spending time with our friends and we are learning to solve the everyday conflicts that come up.
Year
1
In Year 1, we are learning to write a narrative in English. In Mathematics, we have been measuring and comparing the length and capacity of objects. In Science, we are exploring materials and their properties. We are looking at how materials can be manipulated to be stronger. In HASS, we are comparing school items from the past to the present. In Health and Art, we are portraying the zones of regulation in a range of art mediums.
Year
2
Year 2 are working hard on developing their persuasive writing skills. Maybe the children have been practicing their persuasive devices on their Mums and Dads to convince them of something? In Hass we have been identifying a place that is significant to us and wondering if that place may be significant to others. In Science, we have investigated friction and strength to see how they change a push or pull force. In Maths, we are learning about fractions. Ask your child if they can cut an apple or maybe a sausage into halves, quarters or eighths.
Year
3
Learning how to read time on different types of clocks is keeping us busy in Mathematics. We are finishing the first draft of our information report on the Great Barrier Reef and are looking forward to publishing these on the computer in the next couple of weeks. Our solar cooker construction in Design Technology is coming along quite well. Thank you to those students that brought in the bits and pieces used for construction.  For our Art portfolio piece, please remember to bring in pictures to use for the reef collage.
Year 4

In English, Year 4 students have been researching an endangered Australian animal in preparation for writing an information report in the format of a magazine article. This same animal will be the focus for Science as students investigate life cycles and the relationship the animal has with the environment including living and non-living elements. Maths has been very practical as we have discovered more about measuring area, calculating money and recognising symmetry.

Year
5

In English, Year 5 students have been comparing the book and film versions of Storm Boy. Maths has seen us revising fractions and decimal numbers as well as learning a variety of financial maths concepts. In Science, we have continued to study various aspects of light behaviour. For HaSS, we have been researching Australian inland explorers and the Gold Rushes.

Year 5/6 In 5/6J and 5/6W, we have been completing a shared construction of a feature article. Students have been working effectively with their teachers to include persuasive devices such as repetition, tricolons, evaluative language and rhetorical questions. Students have also been discussing how a good persuasive argument contains ethos, pathos and logos.
Year
6
Year 6 students are working on their feature article writing in English and are having some engaging discussions around various topics. In Science, students have been conducting research to gather information about Earth and their chosen planet/celestial body. The Year 6 students are eager to begin their world monument structures in Art this week.
