Social-Emotional Learning
Have an enquiring mind. The world needs problem-solvers. How can we do something better?
To be a problem-solver, you need to use a combination of knowledge, skills and imagination. Imagination is not just about fantasy characters. Imagination is about lateral thinking. Considering possibilities that may not have been used before.
-
- Knowledge (or know how to find the information you need)
- Imagination
- Skills

Show persistence and self-discipline to achieve your goals and do your best in your learning. We all have the brain to build on these skills. See below.
Our brains are so sophisticated, we can do anything we want to. We just need to use it and look after it.
- Eat healthy foods. They contain vitamins and minerals that are important for the nervous system.
- Get a lot of playtime (exercise).
- Wear a helmet when you ride your bike or play other sports that require head protection.
- Use your brain by doing challenging activities, such as puzzles, reading, playing music, making art, or anything else that gives your brain a workout
Bridge Strategy: Ignore, don’t react
As adults, I think we use this strategy often. It is effective.
Children need to learn though that you only ignore poor or silly behaviour. They should not be ignoring someone who is trying to negotiate with them, or speak to them about something that is upsetting them. In this case, the other child is actually trying to be assertive or resolve a situation of conflict.
