Principal's Post
Dear Parents/Carers,
Workplace Health and Safety
Mrs Joyce is our school’s Workplace Health and Safety Representative. Each year a detailed Annual Safety Assessment and Action Plan is prepared for the following year. Mrs Joyce chairs a meeting each term to ensure items from the Action Plan are being implemented as well as to address any health and safety issues for staff and students as they arise. Health and Safety incidents are recorded and actioned on a database and more serious incidents are automatically forwarded to Workplace Health and Safety Queensland for further investigation and action if required. This is an essential part of school operations which often happens silently in the background. Today we had a fire drill with the whole school evacuating to the oval in light rain. Previous drills triggered the replacement of our fire alert system as it could not be heard in all parts of the school. We now have a loud, whooping sound which can be heard all over the neighbourhood! Parents/Carers are encouraged to report any potential hazards that they note in their movement around the school grounds to school administration.
Facilities
We had an extensive meeting with the Department of Education’s Infrastructure Advisor last week. The outcomes of soil testing and plans for ongoing rectification around the school was high on the agenda with future works to be undertaken in front of the school, between the library and the Kubbi and between Year 1 and 2. Plans for a covered shelter stretching along the front fence on Hamilton Road for pick up and drop off have been discussed as well as a design concept to make the area between Yr 1 and 2 a more attractive space. Additionally, an architect has created some initial plans for the Administration Building to put it in line with that of new schools. I’ve attached these plans to this newsletter. We are hopeful some of these projects will commence within the next six to twelve months.

Students who don’t wish to have colour thrown at them, can wear uniform. There will be an 8.30 safety briefing (for the P and C identified adults throwing the colour) at the shelter near the tennis court. Students can run, dance as we will have some music pumping out the speakers to motivate everyone! We can’t wait! It is a fun way to raise funds for our school.

In Week 9, the school leadership team will proof-read and then in Week 10 distribute report cards to parents/ carers. Teachers will have their planning days with the Head of Curriculum to plan for Term 3. The Senior Leadership Team (Principal, Deputy Principal, Head of Curriculum and Head of Inclusion) will undertake Walkthroughs through each classroom in the school to talk to students and teachers, peruse their planning and work to provide feedback on the teaching and learning of Reading and Writing in our school.
A busy time in the next few weeks. Have a good week,
