Our students constantly make us proud when talking through situations of conflict. Their honesty in answering questions and owning up to their part in the conflict is a credit to not only them, but you, their parents. Conflict is a normal part of life and so, we don’t expect to get through too many days without having to address it some way or another. Thank you for your support of us and all that you do from the home front.
We are asking students to use their integrity where they see an injustice such as in the case of bullying.
Be the Change … The power of the onlooker in a bullying situation
A bystander is someone who is there when the bullying happens; someone who sees it. You might think that just being an onlooker means not being involved. This is WRONG!
The bystander holds a lot of power in bullying. Probably the most. How is this so?
- If the onlooker is watching; he/she is giving power to the bully.
- An onlooker who laughs or encourages the bully becomes a bully also.
- If walking away and saying nothing, the onlooker’s silence condones it and allows the bully to continue.
