Principal's Post

Dear Parents/Carers,

INVESTING FOR SUCCESS

We have recently submitted our Investing for Success Agreement for 2021.

This funding will be used to:

  • Increase the percentage of Prep students able to read and comprehend short predictable texts and compose and record short, meaningful sentences.

  • Increase the percentage of children achieving a C or better in Writing and Numeracy.
  • Improve the number of A and B students in Year 3 Writing and Year 5 in Reading, Writing and Numeracy.

  • Employ teacher-aides to support the implementation of effective literacy programs targeted to the needs of students.

  • Resource targeted learning teams (consisting of classroom teachers, targeted learning teachers and teacher-aides) on each year level who will engage in focussed collaborations based on student data to improve teaching and learning for all students within a full inclusion model.
Action Cost
Increasing teacher-aide to support targeted learning teams in Prep to 6 within a full includsion model $100,000
Increasing teacher FTE to support targeted learning teams in Prep to 6 within a full inclusion model. $220,809
$270266
Rollover from 2020 $50 543
$320,809

This funding is essential as it allows us to employ teacher-aides who work consistently on one year level. These teacher-aides get to know the needs of individual students very well and they become an important part of the year level team.

We also employ an extra teacher 4 days per week on each year level to assist with extension and support programs.  If you go into our classrooms to volunteer, you will see a significant number of adults assisting students with their learning.

On top of this funding, we have spent $100 000 of our school budget on employing an additional teacher to provide smaller numbers in year levels where there are complex needs.

WALKTHROUGHS

This week the Principal, Deputy Principal, Head of Curriculum and Head of Inclusion walk through every classroom to discuss their classroom literacy planning and implementation. After familiarising ourselves with the teacher’s planning, we observe the literacy block in action and take the opportunity to talk with students and ask them the following questions about their reading and writing progress:

The students are very articulate about their learning and next steps. We are so fortunate to have teaching staff who are willing to share their work with each other and the leadership team. This provide the conditions in which we can continually strive for improvement.

Have a good week,
