Principal's Post
Dear Craigslea Community,
Another fortnight has flown by, and we are already at the midpoint of Term 1. This year, we continue to prioritise making learning visible in our classrooms through Learning Walls. These walls provide students with clear learning expectations and a roadmap to success.
Learning Walls display the learning intention (goal linked to the unit purpose), success criteria (what students need to know and do to succeed), and examples of student work showcasing success. Constructed collaboratively by teachers and students, these walls enhance clarity and engagement in learning.
Recently, the leadership team and I visited classrooms to discuss learning with students. Our aim is for students to confidently answer the following questions:
- What are you learning?
- How are you going?
- How do you know?
- What is your next learning step?
- Where can you go for support?
Students with a strong understanding of their learning journey are more engaged and empowered.
North District Swimming
Congratulations to our students who competed in the North District Swimming Carnival last week! Special recognition goes to Asher and Anthony, who qualified for the upcoming regional carnival.
Phone Away Reminder
In 2024, Queensland State Schools introduced the Phone Away for the Day policy to enhance student focus and well-being by:
- Optimising learning environments
- Encouraging face-to-face social interactions
- Promoting health and well-being through social engagement and physical activity
- Reducing the risks associated with inappropriate technology use
At Craigslea, all students must hand in their phones at the office upon arrival. Phones should not be kept in pockets, bags, or lunch boxes and can be collected at the end of the school day.
Safe Pick-Ups and Drop-Offs
Before and after school are peak traffic times. We are fortunate to have multiple pick-up points to ease congestion. To ensure student safety, we ask parents to strictly follow parking and traffic regulations. Please note that the Hamilton Road pick-up zone is a 2-minute loading zone, and cars should not be parked during pick up or drop off times.
Arts@Craigslea
We have expanded our Arts program to offer all students specialist Dance and Drama lessons alongside Music. The Arts encourage creativity, expression, and critical thinking. This term, our Prep – Year 2 students are engaged in learning the Australian Curriculum: Dance.
Recognising Student Achievement
This year, we are broadening our recognition initiatives to celebrate students demonstrating our LIFE expectations and commitment to learning. These include:
- Gotchas and House Shield Competition
- LIFE/Bounce Back Awards – Recognising students who consistently embody our school expectations and values.
- Principal’s Afternoon Tea – Acknowledging students for outstanding effort in learning.
- Champions Postcard – Celebrating students who support peers, show initiative, persevere, or achieve learning goals.
- Positive Phone Calls Home – Highlighting students' exceptional efforts, achievements, and improvements.
