Dear Families,
This week has been a sad and difficult time for our school community following the unexpected passing of our much-loved year one teacher, Julia Scott. Our heartfelt thoughts and condolences have been shared with Julia’s family. Personally, I would like to send a huge thank you to our staff and students for the kindness and support they have shown each other this week. The response from our families and community has been one of love and compassion and has been greatly appreciated by everyone in our school. We will continue to provide the support that our staff and students need over the coming days and weeks.
Kind Regards,
Nikki
The focus for the fortnight is:
Be safe in all Environments - I am in the right place, at the right time, doing the right thing in the playground.
It is important for all children to be safe whilst at school, this also includes whilst they are playing in the playgrounds during our play breaks.
We have been revising where and when it is safe to play around our school.
At Craigslea SS:
- We know what areas of the school are safe to play in and have fun.
- We play appropriate games, play fair and be good sports.
- We try our BridgeBuilder skills if we have a conflict.
- We get adult help if we need it.
- We follow adult instructions and move to the eating area when it is time.
Active School Travel
Bling your RIDE to School Day
Decorate your ride and ride to school on Wednesday 29 March
To celebrate the last Walking, Wheeling Wednesday of the term and National Ride to School day we are planning a day full of fun and colour where students, teachers and parents will discover the fun of riding to school.
We are inviting all students and families to Bling Your Ride to School on Wednesday 29 March 2023 to coincide with our Active School Travel Day. Everyone is encouraged to dress up their bikes, scooters, wheelchairs with bright, colourful decorations. The best decorated ride from P-3 and Years 4-6 will win a prize, so start planning your creations!
During the April Vacation work will begin on our new Year 1 Outdoor Learning Area. As you know, access to the school grounds during this time is restricted to construction workers only. There will also be work commencing on the upgrade to the Ballinger St carpark next week. Parents will still be able to use this entrance to the school however, there may be some delays as equipment is brought into the school grounds and site access is established. Temporary fencing will also be going up around the work site area and access to the Year 1 block will be limited. The anticipated completion time for this works is approximately 10 weeks.

We are learning about our new friends Poppy Princess, Iggy Insect, Fifi Flamingo and Rosie Rabbit in InitaLit. We are enjoying working on our physical goals this term, we are all doing such a great job learning a new skill. We are reading the text ‘Granny Gromet and Me’, we love learning about rockpools. |
Year 1 |
Year 1 had so much fun during the “My Patch” incursion on Tuesday and Wednesday last week. It was wonderful to be able to explore our school’s habitats. We were amazed at how many plants and animals call our school their home. This week we are demonstrating our learning by independently completing an Information Report on a Koala or Crocodile or Snake. In Maths we are exploring Australian coins and their values. |
Year 2 |
Year 2 are busy finishing off our assessments. We’ve been writing some amazing Imaginative texts, full of interesting adjectives and details. In Mathematics, we’ve been learning how addition and subtraction work together and how to add numbers efficiently. Science has been all about waterproofing our creations to keep objects, or ourselves, dry. |
Year 3 |
In Year 3 we are finishing off our assessments. We will be writing a persuasive text about being a principal and making 3 changes to Craigslea State School. I wonder how convincing we can be! In Mathematics, we are having fun exploring chance and data. But most of all, we are so excited for our excursion to SparkLab next week! |
Year 3/4 |
We are finalising our assessments. We will be performing our poem to the class and sharing our PowerPoints from HaSS. In Mathematics, we will start looking at simple and unit fractions and playing some games with these concepts. Mrs D will be in Melbourne on her long service leave for the last week of this term. |
Year 4 |
4M and the Year 4s had an exciting day of learning in nature at the Bunyaville Environmental Education Centre on Wednesday. The engaging activities were the culmination of the Science and HASS units to do with erosion, Earth’s surface and environmental influences. 4W and 4S students who have made payment and completed the consent forms have the same opportunity next week. In English students have been busy finalising their poetry assessment by creating and comprehending poetic texts. |
Year 5 |
Year 5 are having a fun time collecting real world data about our school in our Mathematics unit. In English, we are in the process of writing our final drafts with sizzling starts, complications and endings with impact! In HASS, we are looking forward to sharing our digital presentations with our class about different European countries. |
Year 5/6 |
In 5/6W, students have begun working on their Andy Griffiths inspired narratives – we also just finished writing our own as a class! It’s hilarious. In Science, our Year 6’s have started looking at different energy transformations and how electricity can be generated in different ways. |
Year 6 |
In Year 6, students have started their Technologies unit and begun looking at how the different components of networks all fit together. Students have looked at peripheral devices, internal and external components and data storage methods. |
