Dear Parents/Carers,
This is our last newsletter of the term rounding out an action packed couple of weeks. It was a true privilege to attend Year 6 camp with staff and students. The activities were fabulous building rafts, ropes courses, team work activities, creek walks, hikes and the list goes on. The children were very well-behaved, sleeping well and challenging themselves by moving out of their comfort zone. We have Year 5 Camp to Currimundi to look forward to later in the year.

Senior Leader Induction Assembly took place and it is always great to see so many parents present. These students have fulfilled their responsibilities well so far this year and they are very eager to help out wherever needed which is a pleasure and such an asset to the school as a whole.

Year Two attended Nudgee Beach for an excursion and it was one of the few days where the sun shone and so children got to enjoy beach walks and the other outdoor activities on offer. A quick thinking Nudgee Beach teacher diverted students away when an eastern brown snake presented itself in the shallows. An exciting sighting for students and fortunately the only way they got to see it was on the camera!

EASTER BONNET PARADE
On Thursday April 1, we will be holding Easter Bonnet Parades. We are going to alter the times slightly as we have some parents keen to attend both events and they were scheduled at the same time.
THE NEW TIMES ARE:
1.45pm-2.25pm: Year 1 and 2 in the hall.
2.30pm-3.00pm: Prep in the Year 1 covered area.
ASSEMBLY
After the holidays as restrictions ease again, we are attempting to go back to a closer to normal assembly format. After speaking with some students and teachers, we are opting for a monthly assembly for Prep to Year 3 and Years 4 to 6 instead of fortnightly. This will allow more time for an already crowded curriculum. We have organised Prep to Year 3 Assembly and Year 4 to Year 6 rather than the Prep to Year 2 and Year 3 to Year 6 of previous years, because the allowable numbers in the hall don’t work with the previous combinations.
Week 1: Anzac Assembly will be filmed because Mrs Stockill had invested time in this filming before she had notification that restrictions were eased. Prep to Year 3 will watch this from their classrooms. Year 4 to Year 6 will watch it together in the hall. After speaking with Kedron Wavell RSL who expressed a preference for just School Captains and Vice-Captains to attend this year, we have opted to take the School Captains and Vice-Captains to represent the school at Anzac Square this year on the morning of Thursday April 22. Therefore, we won’t be organising students for the march at Kedron Wavell which is taking place on April 25. We will revisit the option of attending the Kedron Wavell March in 2022.
Week 1: Year 4 to 6 Hall for filmed Anzac Day Assembly. Prep to 3 in classrooms.
Week 2: Prep to 3 Assembly
Week 4: Year 4 to 6 Assembly
Week 6: Prep to 3 Assembly
Week 8: Year 4 to 6 Assembly
Week 10: Prep to 3 Assembly
PICK UP AND DROP OFF ZONES
Please be extra considerate of passing traffic and neighbours. These zones continue to exist because of their cooperation. It is not the school’s responsibility to monitor the behaviour of vehicles in the parent car park. I’d ask everyone to be mindful and respectful of others whilst in, leaving and entering the car-park. These car-parks remaining open are dependent on drivers being safe and respectful.
Have a good week,
Kathy

Religious Instruction
Parents of children in Years 1, 2 & 3 have another opportunity to advise if you wish to have your child included in the Religious Instruction class on a Thursday afternoon. The child will require a workbook which comes at a cost of $6.00. This is paid on receipt of an invoice.
If you wish to include your child for this weekly instruction, please complete your expression of interest click here .
Social-Emotional Learning
Last Friday was an important day to celebrate the diversity within our school, where children of all ages came together to participate in the planned activities.
They made friendship wristbands, worked on a collaborative Harmony poster, took on a chopsticks champion challenge, made a flag from a country of choice, synchronized as a team with parachute activities and played a multicultural game.

We have some ideas for next year and would very much like to hear yours, and have some parent involvement, too. You could do this via the Cuppa morning this Friday in our school staffroom. Hope to see you there if you can make it along.
Reminder: In case you were thinking that we were swamped with volunteers, we still have not had a parent join our PBL committee. Whilst many of our teachers are parents or grandparents, a parent voice is an important part of building and maintaining our school culture. If you are interested and can spare 1 hour twice per term (3:15 – 4:15 pm), please let me know. Even if you wish to join us by ZOOM, from home or work, we can arrange that.

Our final focus for the term is ‘be the change to stop bullying’.
Giving children the knowledge, the language and the confidence to deal with everyday conflict builds their resilience and self-esteem. These qualities empower children and provide a repertoire of skills from which to draw should they encounter bullying – both from a bystander position as well as a target of the bullying action.
Some important discussion that needs to take place is to know how bullying is different from conflict. If children see everyday conflict as a bullying situation, this will not help them to understand that conflict is a normal, everyday occurrence. Bullying, however, is far more serious.
What is bullying?
Discussion Points
Which children have the position of most power? Least power?
How can the position of power shift?
